We had a very good friend who is a professional photographer gift us a newborn session for LO's newborn pictures. I then bought a Groupon to a private/professional photographer for his 6 month pictures, which we used as Christmas cards as well. Just today, we got his 1-year pictures taken at Sears. The Sears ones were fine - actually quite cute! A much different experience than professional photographer, but - very MM. I did quite a bit of research between JCP, Target & Sears trying to decide where to go. I settled on Sears, because they offered the most "in studio" time and I knew my son would need a LOT of warming up time. JCP & Target boasted 10-15 minutes in-studio time, whereas Sears advertised 30-60 minutes of picture taking. We had time to do some clothing changes, which I really appreciated.

We went to JcPenney's for 3 and 6 months (and we will for 9 months as well probably at Sears). The pictures are fine. We paid all of $55 total for like 12 sheets between the two sessions so I was happy. We did pro pics for her newborn pictures and will for her 1 year pictures. I do wish we had just done the entire year package with our newborn photographer though.
If Sears offers a longer appointment time like the PP said, I'd definitely go there. At Penny's for her 3 month pictures, we were there for over an hour because of cancellations. For her 6 months, we were rushed out in 20 minutes and it was nowhere near enough time.

I dont know if you have one near you but I had a good experience at Picture People. They are always running REALLY good specials, so I would just wait for one and just take her. I did JCP at 6 months and was a little underwhelmed, but I bet they very by studio/location.

We also bought a package from a photographer for newborn, 6 months and 1 year. We are doing our 6 months this weekend (even though he is almost 7). I like it because we are doing them outside in a park. I think it will be fun!
