Reimbursement. Here's a C&P because I don't even know what to do.
"I’ve sent the other owner the vet bill and the next step will be to reimburse you.
Since Luna’s injury was something that occurred while playing, rather than a fight or any kind of aggressive activity on the part of the other dog, and since Luna kept going back to that other dog to play without showing our staff member any signs of injury, would you consider it fair to pay for a portion of the vet bill?
I’ve ejected that dog permanently and that owner had pre-paid for a daycare package so I’m trying to be fair to all parties here. I’m balancing refunding a portion of her visits and also reimbursing you for Luna’s care. If I covered 75% of the vet bill would you consider that fair? Or, here’s another option: I can offer you daycare days at no charge…perhaps 5 daycare days plus $120."
Newp, she needs to pay 100%. Whether she wants to accept just 75% from the other owner and front the difference is her call, but she needs to pay you . Do you have any paperwork describing how these situations would be handled?

If she's only reimbursing the other owner for days not used in the package then she's not actually out a dime for that, she never provided those services. She should be paying in full.
This is such bull shit and should've been taken care of the day of the incident and now she is haggling like this is a garage sale?? And to put blame on your dog!? Oh hell no.

Did you have to sign anything about this kind of thing when you signed her up? I've taken our pups to doggie day care in different areas over the years and I always have had to sign something saying that they aren't at fault if my dog is injured by another dog while in their care.
9. No Liability for Damages. Daycare will exercise reasonable care for the dog delivered by Owner to its facility. Owner acknowledges, however, that Daycare cannot be held responsible or liable for any illness or injury sustained by Owner’s dog or any injury that the Owner’s dog inflicts on another dog.
I was initially very put off because the owner was essentially asking me to do PR for her when I brought my dog to the vet. Also, the report of what happened from the daycare staff (Luna yelped and they went right over) is different than what the owner is saying in the email (the staff didn't notice).

This is the case at both of our dog daycares too. I'm surprised the owner hasn't mentioned this policy during what sounds like has been multiple exchanges. So for all who are insisting that she *needs* to pay it...well, she doesn't.
However. Since the daycare owner seems willing to ignore her own policy and pay most of the bill, it would be better for her to pay the whole thing and be done with it. Haggling over 25% of the bill based on the pet's willingness to play afterward is ridiculous.
And if I were the pet owner here, I would tell her that I don't care about her dealings with the other dog owner. I'm only concerned about the interactions between the daycare and myself. But since she brought it up, refunding for unused days shouldn't even be an issue between them, let alone something I need to be concerned about. This daycare sounds terribly unprofessional.

So, she actually doesn't owe you anything.
I'm confused by the responses here. These are dogs, you put your dog there at your own risk. There's no way anyone can guarantee the safety of your dog in that environment. I think she was saying that they had no idea she was hurt because she was injured while playing, which is totally normal. Dogs snap, and no amount of supervision can stop that unless there's one man for every dog.
Yeah I agree. I was surprised that there was no policy about this and then I read there was, which completely makes sense. You can't predict dog's behavior.
I feel like the owner is trying to not lose a second client over this and is willing to throw OP a bone with the 75%. How much was the bill, BTW?
$280
Meh. This is a lot of back and forth over $70 that she doesn't technically owe you. I think you taking a 25% hit is just the risk you take when you send your dog to a place like this.

I do think the owner is being more than fair by offering the reimbursement, although I would have probably done the same to appease both parties and minimize negative reviews.
At the same time, I wouldn't like her attitude of "well your dog seemed fine and went to play with the other one." They're dogs. They're not rational. I definitely think you're right to want to find a new place, but I wouldn't go out of my way to trash them. I'd be honest about my misgivings if someone asked, though.
