Life has been tough for a lot of us on here. Hugs to all!
I just got back from a two week family holiday in Rehoboth Beach, DE. It was happily warm/hot and mainly sunny. I needed it after the dreary rain of London. I think we'll now be on record for rain for not only April, May and June but also July...spring and summer has sucked!
So I just lost my job for next year. It's not as huge an issue for me as it is for a lot of the other 59 grantees, many of whom have already sold or rented their homes and bought plane tickets to Spain for themselves and, in many cases, their significant others and children. Also, they had already quit their jobs or taken a leave of absence, effectively leaving them without work and without health insurance just a few weeks before the American schools go back to work. I understand that Spain is in a major financial crisis right now, but they could've made this cut earlier!

Elenetxu: I am so sorry!!!!!!!!!!!! ((((Hugs)))))) That sucks so bad and I cant believe they waited this long to decide on this. This crisis isnt new so you would think they would have made this decision a long time ago. Do you know what you are going to do?
Thank you both. It's strange, but I'm not that worried. I just seriously feel for my colleagues who either have lost a significant amount of money and have to stay in the US or who suddenly find themselves having to leave Spain on short notice because their visas are up.
The ministry has not yet offered us a solution, but they've said in an e-mail to a colleague (of course they don't keep us all informed) that they're looking for a way to help out.
Odd so many are talking about Lisbon since that is precisely why I am silent of late. I stop by sometimes, but usually with little time to do more than look at a couple of messages. I feel guilty wasting time in the library on message boards when I have to finish taking notes.
But this week I'm in Spain so feeling less guilty. Or else, I'm just burned out!
I'm sorry some of you have such bad news. I am seriously seeing the crisis all over here and it's quite startling.
Thanks anna! Life is rough here, but it sure is a nice place to be. DH's hometown now has a "pintxo y pote" deal for 1.50. Can't beat it!
I applied for a number of jobs in the US but we threw in the towel when I learned it would mean we'd have to be apart for a number of months while DH's visa would be processed. Silly me! I think we'll chat with an immigration lawyer while we're in the US - if anything, just to get information.
