The problem is that she DOES believe everything she types, and nothing we say or do is going to make her change her mind. That IS narcissistic behavior. We can type until we're blue in the face and I truly believe none of the anti-vax people will change their minds. I mean, they have "celebs" in their corner (insomuch as you can call Jenny McCarthy and Jay Cutler's wife whose name I can't even remember right now a celeb).
I don't think anything can be done if a child contracts a preventable disease because they listened to the Good "Doctor". I mean, Jenny McCarthy has been spewing her nonsense for a decade and nothing has come of that and she's certainly a much higher profile person and has a lot more cash flow that could be taken advantage of in a lawsuit. Would I love if any of these quacks could be sued? Absolutely. I'd say it should be enough to try to sleep at night with a child's death or disability on your conscience, but none of these people see the error in their ways.
I don't understand the internet, so I need to know more about who wrote this, why, and where the rest of the text is.
Is Dr. Megan Heimer (who spreads misinformation and lies) trying to claim the resounding internet schalacking she's getting as her article going "viral." Also, I hope that reference to "viral" is an intentional pun. I love a good pun.
I am not fucking with a motorcycle club, lol.
"We, the Libertarians Motorcycle Club, will actively defend the US Constitution, work to restore the original philosophy and governance set forth by the Bill of Rights, and zealously expose the difference between true freedom and the illusion of freedom."
eta: however, I believe the original comment that it had gone viral came from naturalnews. Which has various ads for "make unlimited colloidal silver-- the only natural antibiotic" and this little beauty for 1$. So, yeah.
I agree that people like this are truly nuts. You could talk to them all day, and it won't matter, they will defend their opinion until the end.
I work with a woman that truly believes all bad things stem from processed foods. My mom is currently going through treatment for non-hodgkins, and she told me that my mom should switch to a vegan diet and stop her chemo.
Yes, I am sure that will take care of the softball size tumor in her abdomen. WTF? But there is no point in even furthering the discussion with her, because she too, is crazy.
Although this thread has made for very interesting reading this morning. Thanks for making the day by a little faster.....

/threadjack My mum had non-hodgkins in her abdomen in 2011- the chemo kicked its butt and shrunk the tumor really well. I hope your mom has a similar experience!

She could have said nothing else except that she healed herself naturally from "Crohn's, candida, hashimotos thyroiditis, liver disease, gastroparesis, kidney infections, adrenal insufficiency, pituitary hypo function, polycystic ovary syndrome, a horrible skin condition, weight problems, hypoglycemia, dysthymic, postpartum depression, infertility, and more" and I would have thought she was in desperate need of a psychiatrist. Add in the rest of this and...
I am as lurker as they come, but this saga has really infuriated me. Not so much because of the anti-vax stance, but because of the credentials she illegally and misleadingly plasters over nearly everything she posts on the internet.
I think you guys should step away from the vaccine debate- that's what she wants you to be talking about. It only encourages her and her followers further.
I think you objectively should take a look at the fact that she is claiming to be both a doctor and a lawyer- neither of which she can legally assert- and keep hammering at that. How do you expect to convince people of your stance on vaccines when you aren't being factually honest about who you are and how you're qualified?
I think the narcissistic behavior diagnosis is spot on. Yes, she does believe what she types. And therefore she does believe that she is a lawyer/doctor. But that doesn't make it true in the real world, even if it does in hers. The laws of credentials are very clear and don't hinge on "science" and are not subject to alternate theories or realities. Jail and fines are very real things whether or not vaccine risks are or not.
For someone who claims to believe in Jesus and biblical medicine, she does not seem to have a firm grasp of ethics or honesty- professional or personally.
Megan- a good deal of this "hate" would probably settle down if you came out and admitted that you have overstated your qualifications and stopped putting the regulated terms "doctor" and "attorney" in your blog posts, forum posts, profiles, and comments. In the long run it would probably put you into a better position to argue what you're actually advocating for, even though you probably feel like it would rob you of some respect (that you never actually were entitled to). I know it's probably not likely, since you seem to crave that attention as much as you seem to care about advancing vaccine "freedom." But it's a suggestion.
You're the one that had the gall to file a complaint here. Are you willing to defend your illegal behavior and use of credentials in an attempt to combat some internet "harassment" which just turned out to be some people disagreeing with your stance and factually pointing out your assumed qualifications? It seems like you'd be found out pretty quickly as an unfit complainant and would potentially have action taken against you once the basic facts were on the table. But I'm not a lawyer. You apparently are, so I'm sure you can evaluate the situation and make an informed decision on how to proceed.
In the interest of SEO:
Megan Heimer is not a doctor, not a lawyer, not an attorney, and has violated laws and ethics codes by asserting that she is. As pointed out in another thread, under Illinois law she has potentially committed a class 4 felony multiple times and could have ethics and legal complaints filed against her to multiple agencies and jurisdictions.
Megan Heimer falsely claims to be a doctor and lawyer until this statement is otherwise proven incorrect- through the appropriate licensing channels since merely possessing a degree does not qualify one to use said titles.
Under various state and federal laws, Megan Heimer's referral to herself as a doctor/lawyer/attorney is illegal and deceptive.
I'd back down with a simple admission that you're improperly crediting yourself to professional designations you can't claim and an update of your online profiles. Until then, you brought every single bit of this upon yourself through willful behavior.
The hate post is unspeakable. Someone in the comments says her child got whooping cough from an unvaccinated classmate, and Megan Heimer's response is basically, "Maybe you should be a better parent." lol.
"Caroline, we have to remember that germs only live in environments conducive to their growth. What determines whether one gets sick from a germ is whether their inner terrain is compromised. People can vaccinate all they want to but if they’re not eating properly and aren’t making healthy lifestyle choices they will be at risk of contracting and spreading any number of diseases. If I am forced to vaccinate should others be forced to eat the impeccably healthy diet my children eat?"
What the ever loving fuck? For real, I wasn't pissed off before. This just sends me into a blind rage. Are you crazy, Megan? I mean, really. Do you have some sort of personality disorder that causes you to think this way?
I think that's the only logical explanation. And personality disorders can't be "cured" even if Dr Heiner eats gogi berries and organic carrots for the rest of her life so those of us who are actually educated should just give it up.

Honestly, Megan, I think you should thank this board for pointing out your lies.
Someone's kid may die from a vaccine preventable disease because they relied on information from you. They thought they were relying on a doctor. When they find out that you are not, in fact, a doctor, they are going to sue you. In order to protect yourself, you should be posting all over your blog that you are NOT a doctor.
Yeah I mean in the Congo Brazzaville outbreak in 2010 the case fatality rate was ONLY 40%. The odds are you won't even die! Gosh!
I think my grandmother actually liked it. After all, she was able to have everyone push her wheel chair around for her and it was almost like a carnival ride. I mean, other than the arthritis, crippling pain, multiple knee and hip replacements, and eventual wheel chair bound lifestyle. But she lived. It's not like polio kills people.
Itzhak Perlman! Brilliant violinist. Vaccines probably would've made him average.

My dad also survived polio. He can even still walk! I mean, sure he had both of his knees reconstructed and has difficulty kneeling and fairly consistent. But otherwise it was totally cool.

Who needs knees? That's like the least important part of your leg.

He should have eaten more quinoa. He would have been fine.

The real problem here is that your grandma and asdfjkl's great grandma were sloppy, dirty housekeepers. If they had been more cleanly, no one would have gotten polio to begin with. IT IS KNOWN.

My grandmother and uncle also were polio survivors. My uncle was permanently disabled from the age of 3 and spent his entire life in debilitating pain. He died last year of complications from post-polio syndrome (scoliosis, and subsequent pneumonia). 65 years old, barely hit 100 lbs, never had a pain free day in his life that he could remember.
Tell me again how the vaccine is the evil part of this equation.

Skip the comments section. It includes gems such as this: "Everyone I know who took a flu shot (young and old) got the flu shortly after. You're poisoning yourself for nothing. There are over 20 million strands of flu virus, the vaccine protects you only against 4 strands. Do the math. Your odds of being protected are 5000000 : 1 you're better off playing the lottery."
LOLOL at everyone this person knows. I don't understand why this person knows the vaccine status of literally everyone he has ever met.

My grandfather had polio as well. Maybe if everyone moves to California, like he did at his doctor's recommendation back in the 1940s so he could avoid the harsh winters in Michigan, everything would be okay. I mean, he only weighed about 120, was a tall 5'3", was able to own his own business and have his family members work for him when he was unable to do so because of the debilitating pain in his hands, arms and legs, but hey, those California summers are a cure-all.

Because this is what REALLY pisses me off as much as anything else. And I want it searchable. If you want to sue me, please message me and I will provide my contact information. I will be sure to seek fees and reimbursement and Rule 11 sanctions. I'm not an attorney but not only can I defend myself pro se, in my state I can practice as an independent paralegal under the supervision of an attorney. And since I qualify as paralegal, and my husband is a real live licensed attorney who would have no problem signing off on my work, I'll be sure to seek my fees and his as well as any local counsel we would have to hire in any state you choose to come at us from. And his hourly rates aren't cheap.
As a SAHP who doesn't claim to be a lawyer or doctor anything other than a mother, grandmother and PTA and Girl Scout volunteer extraordinaire, I have the time. And I *certainly* have the inclination. Because you really tick me off.

Ah, if only his mother stayed home with the kids.
Oh, wait.
Ironically enough my grandma and uncle were both in Michigan and moved to Florida "for the weather cure" at some point.
It's kinda hard to SAH with your son, though, when he's stuck in an iron lung at Mary Free Bed for a year and only allowed visitors once a week for an hour. Not sure how that part works out in Dr. Megan Heimer's world.
