The basics: I finished in 1:50:38, which is 20 seconds slower than last year. I feel ok with this result.
The good: last year, the course was short at 12.975 miles due to re-routing for so much snow. So, last year I ran a 8:30 pace and this year I ran 8:27 pace. SO, technically still a PR.
I'm really proud that I hung on during this race. The pace honestly felt fast to me even during the first few miles, and I seriously wanted to bail on my time goal and just run it like a marathon pace run. I'm proud that I kept going after it, even though I came up a little short.
The bad: the wind was vicious. Probably 15-20 mph with stronger gusts. I was definitely tucking in behind people when I could.
My shin started throbbing exactly at the mile 10 marker. Before that it was fine; which is so strange. I'm icing again now, and I'm hoping it will feel better soon!
Why couldn't I have managed 39 seconds faster???
Overall, a nice race, the rain held off, and I'm happy with my effort.

Congrats on a great race, and PR pace! On a non windy day you would have beat your goal with time to spare.
I PR'd my 10K yesterday. Old PR (2012, my first ever race) was 1:17; yesterday I ran 1:02. I've done bunches of 5Ks, 2 halfs, and 2 fulls, but this was my 2nd 10K.

Congratulations on the mega PR! I don't race 10K very often either, but I probably should think about it this spring too.

Thanks cinco. I've decided I will claim this as a new, legit PR. I know I wasn't at 100% & the wind was killer, so I'm satisfied. Being so close is still frustrating, but I suppose it's better than totally blowing it.

Thanks! This was my 18th race. There aren't many 10Ks around here, or if there are, they have bad timing in the calendar.

I'd totally count that as a PR if the other course was short. Wind sucks. Lately it's been nice and calm here on my rest days, and windy as hell on group bike ride and long run days.
PS-your time IS fast You have 25 mins on my half PR.
biomaj5 - thank you! I've improved about 1/2 hour over the past 4-5 years. Even if this race wasn't exactly what I hoped for, it helps to look back and see all the progress over time. I hope your next race gets better, calm weather!
@g22 - I don't know if it's fair to say MN wind is as bad as MT wind, but I was honestly worried some of our trees were going to snap off when I left home that morning. Luckily no damage done.

Yay! Congrats!
Considering the wind, this is so awesome. I would have died. I was out running 5 easy miles on Saturday morning and it was brutal.
