I woke up just before 7:00 and felt a little crampy. I got in the shower and they didn't go away, so at 7:30 I called MH and asked him to come home. He was home by 8:00, which is when my older son woke up and we got him ready for the day and I finished getting some of the stuff packed for my bag. I started timing the contractions around 8:30 as my MH was dropping my son off at the sitter. They were about 40 seconds and 3-5 minutes apart. I called the OB at 9:15 and got the go ahead to get to the hospital. I checked in at 9:45 and the first thing I said was, "I want an epidural." They got me in a room and I was already 8 cm! I was starting to feel some pressure with my contractions. They called the OB and the anesthesiologist because it was clear things were moving very quickly. The anesthesiologist got there but by that time the contractions were so painful that I could not lie still enough to get the epi.
I legit started crying when I realized that I had to go med free. I'm not going to lie, there was a lot of carrying on and complaining on my end. Lol! I'm sure this sounds strange, but I could not believe how much it hurt. My nurses (I swear, there were like 4 or 5 in there!) were very encouraging but firm, which is what I needed because I was carrying on quite a bit about how much it hurt, how much I didn't want to do it, and how sad I was that I couldn't get the epidural. It's true that your body does just take over at some point because when the pressure starting becoming awful all I could do was bear down and push. My water broke burst at 10:15. At that point I became like a feral woman and I felt quite out of control of my body. Although I was pushing it was more to escape the pain than anything else. I couldn't pull my legs up (the thought of doing anything aside from just dying was unbearable), so the nurses pulled them up for me and finally convinced me to stop pushing against them, curl up and push like hell. The ring of fire is no joke and I kept asking if he was crowning, but he wasn't. Finally I get it together enough to push, push, push and he was born at 10:32. Less than four hours, start to finish. Ladies, if you had a quick labor with your first (mine was about 8) do NOT mess around with the second. I give major props to anyone who chooses to go through natural labor more than once.
Wow! Congratulations! The first picture of you two is so lovely and the second just melts my heart! My first labor was 10 hours and I'm more than a little nervous this one will be much quicker.

Too much pain for an epidural? Wow, how unfair is that? Lots of women cry and scream and complain even with one though... So don't fell bad about that even for a moment.
