Found out DD didn't get a spot at the ABA school we were hoping to put her in for next year. I was so hoping she would get in as it is a great program.
coming up with plan B is stressing me out. she is 3 (4 end of August) and emerging verbal, no big behavioral issues at this point (doesn't tantrum/hit/etc).
My thought is to keep her in her SN public 2 day a week preschool as planned add in 2 days of private (church) preschool and up her ABA hours to 12 a week. any thoughts? What did/are y'all doing?
sounds like a good mix.Is it 3 hours a day? Does your school district not do 5 days a week of Special Needs? I know I had trouble with a private church being able to handle my son. I was picking him up early or they asked not to have him come in when they were short staffed. At that point I moved my son to public. He only recently (last year) added in ABA 10 hours per week. He has handled it beautifully. Can you put your DD on a wait list for the ABA school? I am moving my son mid-year since they do year round. At least if someone drops out you can move.

4 hours (8-12) with 30 minutes of speech each day and 30 minutes of OT every other week (I'll be pushing to increase OT at our IEP) in our district it's either 2 mornings a week or full time school (8-3) which would interfere with ABA which is our primary focus right now since it is working so well for her. our district doesn't 'do' ABA and while TEACHH therapy is good it is what her SN school uses and it is far less effective for her then ABA so I 'd hate to switch to her getting that primarily. because she is a manipulative little stinker who figured out real quick how to work the system to do what is easy for her.
I saw this on Facebook. I would do plan b. two of my three never had ABA, just typical preschool inclusion. My kid who did ABA had it through the school district. Is that an option? What is their program? I never heard of it.

Hi! No it's not. Either we do full day preschool with inclusion and limited ABA or 2 day a week SN preschool, private ABA, and possibly private Preschool. TEACHH is this teacch.com/about-us/what-is-teacch Which is great but DD has figured out that they let her lead and uses that to avoid more challenging work, plus they accommodate to the point where she isn't really being pushed to learn coping skills and basic skills to the degree she is capable of which is where I want her focusing while academics are less of an issue/concern. I don't know where she'll be in a year or two but wherever she is she will need to be able to function in a school environment so want her to be pushed socially and behaviorally now so she is better able to function in 'real' school when the time comes.
He did really well in a small coop nursery school and then preschool. We added Floortime and CBT at 6/7 and social skills pragmatics at 8.
If she's responding well to ABA, I'd do what you have to to continue. I've never done TEACHH. I don't know any parent who would make TEACHH a first choice. Most want ABA or ESDM with a dx at 3/4 and language delays.

That's pretty much how I feel. I really don't get what the school system is thinking (well I kind of do) when ABA/ESDM is so much better for the young ones. She is really progressing well with ABA, particularly with language so I want to keep that as the primary focus for now because it is working. The main reason I wanted this school is it has a strong NT peer model aspect to help with her social deficits and the skilled staff to facilitate it as much as possible. This is an area that it is hard for her ABA team to work on in one on one as much as I love them. But they are starting a social group skills class this summer so hopefully that'll help. We'll see how that goes.
