H's best friend ran Boston last year. He definitely wanted to run it again for "closure" this year. so he worked his butt off and ran it again, as a registered entrant, and kicked ass at it.
That would have been a better way to get closure IMO.
did mrs crowley not qualify? is that why the options were to transfer a bib number or to get a chairty number? or was her age group already full?
I don't really care about bandits. You want to jump in a race, not wear a number and run along for fun? You go ahead and do that. But you better not take water/gatorade or get any aid if you get injured. Also, no prizes for you sir.
These people--they STOLE numbers, took aid all along the way and took prizes--and beyond that proudly talked about their accomplishments. Crowley had multiple opportunities to qualify again and didn't. She finished what "faster" than her husband--but didn't use Boston as an opportunity to requalify for this year's race? What about the rest of the year? What about the charity events? Lots of other people got the spots..WTF was she doing. She sounds like an idiot--and so she STOLE the spot.
THAT makes you an asshole.
Banditing--eh. Whatever. This is a whole new level.
She's a whore. She stole the number, tweeted that she was banditing and then fucking advertised her twitter handle on her bib. Nothing more than a big ol' fucking publicity whore. Closure my fat ass.
I think he got in because he didn't finish, wasn't there something about how anyone who didn't finish last year could run again this year? As for her…I guess she didn't qualify.
Yes, everyone who didn't finish automatically qualified
I can't help but wonder if she's the whiny woman I heard on WGBH radio last week. I bet anything it was. She was complaining that she finished last year a bit before the bombs went off. People who didn't finish were automatically qualified for this year. Like she really, really needs closure, but couldn't run another race to qualify because she's too traumatized and getting a charity bib is tooo haaaaaard.
On second thought, maybe she wasn't that woman, because that woman mentioned finishing with her friend who ran away in terror when the bomb exploded. I don't think she mentioned her husband. In this case, it seems more like the husband who's the whiny one and must have his wife running by his side, qualified or not.
While they seem annoying, it doesn't really anger me. The Boston Marathon used to be a race for anyone who wanted to run, and it kind of sucked when prize money became involved and people had to start qualifying, so I do agree there's a tradition of "illegal" runners.

Prize money for the top 15 elite men and women isn't why there are qualifying standards at Boston.

What entitled assholes. People work their asses off to get into Boston (charity or not). This is a really shitty thing to do. Ugh, I really liked playing four square too.

Boston is traditionally known for having lots of bandits and tacitly encouraging it. ( or at least not really discouraging it).
That being said in 2014 the BAA asked bandits to please not run. Full stop. I don't think the bandits deserve the reddit internet lynch mob but I think they should have respected the request to not run as a bandit this year.
