so (most of) you guys know about bjl's starry ceiling we had at our old house....
h is working on getting the ceiling done for bjl's room in this house now, in hopes that bjl might one day want to sleep in her own room...
we've been having the debate since we got pregnant with #2, but we haven't agreed-- what do we do for the boys room? h wants to do two sets of stars...so that he gets the stars, too. i think he should get something different, but also super awesome....but i don't even know what that would consist of. cool paintings of dinosaurs?? i just think two rooms with the stars is overkill.
also, in the old room, we had a dark blue ceiling..h thinks we need to do dark blue again, but i want to do light blue...we already bought a light purple paint for her room, so i think it'd go well together.
wdsnpt?
for those who don't know what bjl's old room looked like:
I like the stars for both. I mean, you could add airplanes or planets to his or something to make it different. But, dinosaurs don't glow! And I like navy paint for the stars. Navy and light purple go together nicely. But, I guess you could do light blue w/ clouds for bjl and dark blue w/ planets or airplanes for roo and stars for both?

hmmm i like the idea of doing planets. that sounds super fun.
Dark blue and light lavender looks really great together actually. I would just do the dark blue on both of their ceilings, save money and just the one tin of paint If you wanted to differentiate, you could do planets for Ro and swirly nebulae (add some glitter to the paint!) for BJL.
@ksta you are an artsy person! How shall I do planets? What kind of glitter should I use for bjl's paint?
I'll come help if you like if we set a weekend I'm all for encouraging BJL to go into astrophysics, maths, and sciences So I'd be sure to put some planets in hers, too, but if you really wanted to differentiate, then some pretty nebula for her and a little alien space ship here and there for Ro?
Planets - does the room have a standard centered ceiling light? It's kind of fun if you treat that as the sun and then pain the planets moving outwards in the order of the solar system. It's also fun to just paint some here and there, use a stencil and paint different kinds - stripey oranges like Jupiter, cloudy ones like Neptune, etc.
Oh and my mom painted constellations on my sister's wall using glow in the dark paint and it only lasted a few years. So I wouldn't use it unless you plan on changing their rooms in a few years.

Or instead of glitter, get glow in the dark paint in a couple colors that will then glow with soft greens, blues, purples, or pinks
what are your plans the weekend of 5/17-18?
but eek..actual paintings on the ceiling seem so complicated! (nebula, spaceships, etc). we were just going to slap some paint on it! that's why the glitter paint seems like a good idea for me. but also, looking at these...i'm not sure they fit what we're looking for in the room. maybe we'll just do simple stars for both rooms and call it good? give bjl a "daytime" version, and boy can have "nighttime" version.
bjl's room has a center light, boy does not. h can install one, though (we have it..just have been hesitant on pulling the trigger).
i also am tempted to do the disney character wall on one of those links now..but i don't want them to grow out of it
That ceiling is awesome! How long did it take to install?
I think the navy would look good with purple, and I really can't think of anything cooler for a ceiling, but I'm not very creative.
the one at our old house took 2 weeks of after work, every day...and that was about 3pm-9pm. we didn't have any outside-kids at the time, so i didn't need any support during the day. this time, he's already been up there for about 2 weeks, and has about 2-3 days to go.
i love all of them, actually. i'm just afraid of them growing out of it. i want it to be something really cool, even when they're 15.
With the hanging planets, if he grows out if it, easy to just unhang! My friend in high school actually painted her bedroom all sky blue and painted cool stylistic clouds on the walls. I bought her glow in the dark paint to paint stars on the ceiling but I don't think she ever did. So...BJl would probably like the clouds later, too. A rainbow on the wall would be fun but she would probably want that painted over at some point. (Maybe, I had one one my wall when I was young and was sad when my parents painted over it)
I also have something similar to this that never worked as a mobile, so in college I just stuck them up on the wall. The planets glow in the dark. Not sure exactly what box its in though. But you could have them if I found them. www.starmagic.com/3-D-Solar-System-Mobile.html
