I think she was a very fast swimmer, if I recall correctly. These jokes are what friends say about other friends. Not what you say about yourself. LOLOL.
Correct! She hung with the elites during the swim. No denying that she had plenty to be proud of, it was all about her disgusting attitude. It was so gross, it was laughable. To my knowledge, no one here made fun of her, harassed her, or sent threats. It's not our fault if others found her equally disgusting, but didn't share the same restraint in their responses.
Well she sounds like a real peach. I'm in constant awe of those who train and complete an ironman however, I also admire those that run "only" marathons. I may be wrong but the tactical aspects of either one are completely different. Those that train for 5k's? I bow down to you...

VERY different.
I am nowhere near "marathon ready" as I know it for stand alone marathons. It really is different in so many ways (at least, for a first timer like me).

I don't think ANYONE on here said a single word on that blog. We were all too much in shock and awe and all came back to the original thread and said "Sorry OP, but we're not getting behind your sister because she said snatchy things". Tirade ensued.
To be fair, I think I said something along the lines of "Bitch can choke on my 26.2" Perhaps that was seen as a threat? lol

ETA: I said that on here though, not her blog.
Oooh, was that the "actual threat?"
I don't think anything anyone said on here inspired people to up and email her nastiness. We may be gossipy hens but I don't think anyone here is outwardly mean. I could totally see that from other tri boards or IM boards to take her down a peg or five, but c'mon. We're not cray.
Also I love how she's the total victim. She only said "jocular" things! Didn't insult anyone! Didn't piss in anyone else's cheerios or belittle their tri accomplishments to the point of them not going to bed with warm fuzzies anymore!
Of course. She says it all with this sentence. "The only real downer of my season, regretfully, was something that happened to me in reaction to a post-ironman blog post I had made. " It happened to her. She was not an active participant or to be blamed for the shit-storm.

Since I've never done either, can you explain the difference (no snark intended, just genuine curiosity)? Is it mostly speed vs. just getting through it?

Kind of, I think. I've only trained for a sole marathon but know people who do Ironmans (ironmen?) so take what I say with a grain of salt. For a marathon alone training typically consists of some tempo work, speed work, and gets up around 20-22 for you longest run. As far as I know, for an ironman training is more about just training your legs to move after the bike/ fatigued. So not as much focus on speed but more bricks and doing long runs after a previous hard day.
I come with experience: I was the president of the HOA I got demoted to VP after a year for not responding to emails, but that is beside the point. Just don't email me about trees and crap.
She swam a 45 minute swim, she was out before the pros.
But then she spent the race of the race just getting passed, I think she finished in like 13:30, which is fine, but nothing to be snooty over.
lol. Well there's her problem right there. Nobody wins a prize for beating Andy Potts' swim split. Settle down and save a little for the, you know, 138 miles to go.
Wasn't it "your marathon is my warmup"? I remember that day. Man that was fun.
I think the swim was the warm up (so a big f-you to the poor swimmers out there). The marathon was the cool down. It makes sense if you think about it in the order in which they happen during an IM.
Ooooh right. Ok. I have a case of the stupid this week forgive me

No, no, no. These are too recent. Go old school with the test. joenalisadlebredrunblondie26chw57 and others, do you remember these from the old site. LOL
A) Kinoki Footpads or The Cleanse -
Personally, I was strong supporter of the The Chocolate Chip Muffin Diet

A) Kinoki Footpads or The Cleanse B) Running skirts- athletic alternative or for the athletically inspired Starbucks moms only C) Walking during races - strategy or complete faux pas even if you're just walking through water stations. D) Wii Fit Sports - true exercise or not
YESSSSSSSSS! Those were some great days. My answers:
a. Both, at the same time. Double the benefit, duh! b. I used to say Starbucks moms only, but now I actually own one. And plan on running in it soon. c. Totally okay and f'ing awesome...says the pacer who walked through the water stops during her half on Saturday (as did my pacer buddy, and it was totes part of our "strategy") d. If it makes me sweat...it's exercise. /gavel
and howTF did I forget about the Ironman blog? that was a great day too.

I forgot a change of panties last week to change into for my lunchtime run, so I went commando. I felt so freeeeeee!!

I am a convert.
Buuuut then I did Bodypump commando, and I don't think that was such a good idea. I definitely felt a breeze, ahem. My cousin was beside me and I didn't inform of any nsfw views, so I'm calling it good.
The Shape Up Board- Unnecessary, or necessary because the H&F ladies are so cliquish and off putting. Plus, those H&Fers only do marathons.
Not only do those H&F girls only do marathons but they talk smack about awesome cleanses, body wraps, and stuff like that. And those things totally work. So it's totes necessary.

Was this the "zomg help me lose 25 pounds to fit into my too-small wedding dress oh btw my wedding is in 3 weeks" board?
If I remember right it was where all the New Year's resolution fads came to roost, but I could be wrong. I'm drunk on swedish fish right now (thank you, work snack machine refiller guy) so I may be forgetting something. @kirkette?

I'm always mildly disappointed that we don't get NYE resolutioners here on H&F, at least, not many.

Sorry, I was running (lol)
From a relatively simple training perspective, there just isn't time/energy/injury resilience for the average person to run the mileage that a traditional marathon requires when you are cycling 10+ hrs/week and swimming 3+ hrs/wk. So, many IM plans top out at a lower mileage long run than a marathon plan, as well as lower weekly mileage.
And, when racing, since you aren't starting the marathon portion until over 114 miles (~6-9hrs) into the race, in the heat of the day, you can anticipate a slower, fatigued, more "hold on for dear life" marathon than a stand alone.
There are more factors, and things vary a lot between someone like me who is a first timer with a mellow goal (just finish, primarily), vs a pro or someone looking to qualify for Kona, but these are sort of the surface, most standard reasons.

A, B, C
A) Kinoki Footpads or The Cleanse Kinokis, DUH! B) Running skirts- athletic alternative or for the athletically inspired Starbucks moms only I defer to the runners on the board C) Walking during races - strategy or complete faux pas even if you're just walking through water stations. strategy, so that you can out sprint some random person at the end D) Wii Fit Sports - true exercise or not Some moving is better than no moving
I am ALL FOR The Chocolate Chip Muffin Diet! Sign me up!
