I originally saw the locker concept at Pottery Barn, but they were not solid wood and 4 of them were about $2400. I just couldn't spend that much on something that wasn't even real wood. Then I found this company, Sawdust City, online when searching for mudroom lockers. They're based in the midwest (so, made in the US) and the lockers are solid knotty pine. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I loved it. You can get them in any color imaginable with either a distressed look like we did or solid paint. 4 lockers plus the extra stack of cubbies in the middle cost only $1100 because they were running a 25%-off sale. They even asked how we'd have them arranged and took care of drilling the holes for us so that we could attach them to each other as well as to the wall. I highly recommend them!
can you comment on how the shipping works? and cost? were they easy to set up? I assume they are attached to the wall.
Sure thing. Shipping is determined according to how many items you buy (each item has a flat-rate shipping listed on the page, then they just add them all up for your shipping total). Like I said, I had a 25%-off coupon (they're running a $15% right now, fyi), and so my total merchandise was under $1k (4 locker cabinets, 2 modular cubbies w/ doors, and 1 modular cubby w/out door), and then it was $140 total for shipping. They sent it via Fed Ex. Everything arrived fully assembled in its own box, but they had already drilled the holes for attaching to the wall and to the other units according to how we told them we were setting it up (they emailed me after I placed the order to ask for more details - very nice to work with). They provided all the hardware for fastening, too.

another question if you have time. did you build a box for the lockers/cabinets to sit on? It looks like from your pictures that the lockers are above the baseboards? thanks so much for sharing. I am probably going to order from them. also, it looks like you have cottage white.

Yes - our contractors suggested building them up to match the bottom of the sink cabinet. It's not necessary though. Mine are old cottage white, the "old" option giving them the distressed look. Solid cottage white is the version without the sanding/distress. I really hope you like them! Definitely check out the dimensions carefully to make sure they're large enough for what you need. They're not huge inside, but they work perfectly for us - we keep our off-season stuff in another closet.
I didn't think the before was all that bad but the after is so much better. It's beautiful.
What are you going to do about basic "coming home" clutter if this is the main entrance used? Coats and shoes and such?
Edit: I'm an idiot. The picture with the lockers hadn't loaded for me.
haha thanks! So, what you can't really see in the before pics is how terribly it was executed. The previous owners painted this room a sand-textured beige, but they seemed to have done it in a hurry. Literally, they has that damn textured paint splashed on all the baseboards/trim, on the ceiling, splattered on the floor, and they only painted what they could reach without physically moving anything - so behind the utility tub was partly white and partly sand-textured beige, and same behind the washer/dryer. The floor also had a lot of dents and scratches, as well as aging/sun stains. It got us through the last 4.5 years for sure, but we were really excited to fix it up. And I have nothing against textured paint, but it made it really tough to just fix up quickly (esp with it being slopped all over the other areas).
And this room isn't actually OUR main entrance to the house. We come in thru the garage door into the kitchen. But everyone who visits comes in this way b/c it's right next to the driveway.
Yeah, the lockers are hiding our coming-home clutter very well!
