loonylunalovegood, we are geeks, nerds, whatever. We do not judge fanfic. We applaud it and pray series writers and authors take note and make it "reality." C'mon now, we judge people who have too many bottles of nail polish, but we're not so superficial that we'd judge fanfiā¦.
Oh, wait. Forget that last sentence.
But seriously, I'd love more fanfic recs. Everyone should just rec their favorites here.

Who is it on CEP that always admits to reading and loving fanfic? Nonny? @bunnybean? eclaires? pixy0stix? I could just be throwing out random regs. I don't really remember who it is, but I swear they exist.
Come out, come out whoever you are and recommend fanfic!

I read Harry Potter fanfic occasionally, and it should be noted that none of it is salacious.
James Potter Series by G. Norman Lippert -- I think I've only read the first two, and it looks like he's currently working on the 5th. Goodreads might be a better place to get them for download though. And it looks like on Goodreads he as a few other short stories as well, that aren't listed on the website I linked to. They were great when I'd finished book 7 and was going through withdrawal, but they are very similar to the early Potter books with childish antics and similar plots.
Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality -- this is an alternate reality HP story, where HP grew up with Petunia and a different uncle, and grew up loved and crazy smart, and comes to Hogwarts and starts applying the scientific method to magic. It's LONG and still in progress; I'm about 400 pages in and I think it's only about 1/4 of the way through the story and I think that's only Year 1. It's also a little confusing at times; at one point he's testing a theory about time travel and even after re-reading the pages several times I was all WTF and moved on. There is a rather horrifying conversation with Draco and Harry at the train station about Luna, and how the wizarding criminal justice system is basically a farce.

This Sherlock fic is amazing. The author does a great job with Sherlock's weird internal point of view. I was actually only a casual Sherlock fan and then I read this and started shipping Johnlock like whoa. :-D
I follow a few different Sherlock blogs, and it's amazing how many authors in that fandom are serious business -- published authors who do Sherlock fic on the side or people who got picked up by publishers because of fanfic. And totally deserve it, unlike (ahem) 50 Shades lady. :-)
Wait?! You dont need an invite a read? I'm in! lol
If you use the request function for an invite you should get one within 24 hours. But even so, you don't need an invite to read unless an author has locked their fics to "Members Only," which a few did after the recent debacles of talk show hosts showing fanfics to celebrities to get a reaction (ugh). Most fics are unlocked, but if you join you can bookmark and leave kudos and comments and all that good stuff. It is 100x better of a site than FFN. Although some fandoms are still much more popular on FFN a lot of authors are posting to AO3 only because of FFN's site being awful and also they are jerks about deleting fics without warning if they deem the content to be too "mature." Not that I know too much about this issue, lol. (Full disclosure, I "internet-know" someone on the board of AO3 so I get all the news). In case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, there's a much better fanfic site called www.archiveofourown.com. :-) It's technically still in beta and requires an invite to do anything other than read, but you can request an invite and get one pretty much immediately these days.

So this is why FFN is so soft! I didn't realize they had rules. A Teaspoon and an Open Mind is no hold barred stuff. The things I've read. (devil) (devil)
Technically, nothing on FFN is supposed to be rated higher than Mature (e.g., violence and language but no actual sex). In truth, they don't enforce it unless someone complains probably, although I have heard about big "purges" of sexy fics in the past. :-) Mostly, though, people just hate the user experience of the site.
