I totally feel for that poor kid, but I wouldn't mind seeing KFC take these folks to court either.
Seriously. Employees were getting death threats and having stuff thrown at them through the drive thru window. That's awful. The family's actions here should have consequences. Those employees did nothing to deserve that.
I'm still waiting for a similar sorry on the bully & the blogger

I was actually checking the FB page and the blog just yesterday to see if there had been any updates, because I'm way overly invested in that story. The mommy blog's hosting site told me the account had been suspense.
Methinks we're never hearing them admit that their daughters are lying liars or apologizing for the slandering J and J's family.
KFC has handled this so well. Donating with no questions asked, then investigating + third party investigator, then not pulling their donation from the little girl.
As somebody who worked fast food for most of my teenage years, my blood is boiling for any employee that suffered abuse from customers because of this shit.
I've had food and drinks thrown at me while I was cleaning up parking lot litter just because a group of assholes decided "hit the girl picking up trash" would be a fun game to play. On more than one occasion. With different groups of assholes.
You get shitty enough treatment from customers for a pittance of a paycheck WITHOUT the general public falsely believing you're some monster that called a 3-year-old girl's face "scary."

I never saw the original story, but a fb friend (not from this board) had "liked" an article debunking the story, an there were still comments that were skeptical about KFC / the employee. Sigh.

As a mom who has been asked to leave a chain restaurant due to my child's behavior, I felt I could see this story happening.
I feel bad for that little girl.
What kind of behavior was it?
My colleague was asked to leave a restaurant (and not a chain or fast food one) because his son was taking the decorations off the christmas tree and throwing them. The parents were doing nothing to stop it. In that case, I think it was totally justified.

The blog's still there (including a post about the other mother who was so afraid for her life and her children, yet she's a great marksman with a bow and arrow??)

Really? It wasn't there for me yesterday!
Well, now that I know it was just a Google fluke or something, I need an update. A "My friend and I are complete idiots for falling for this obliviously fake story our daughters fed us" kind of update.
Don't worry, I'm not holding my breath, it would just be nice to see some apologies for slandering some innocent kid just because she deluded herself into refuting irrefutable evidence when it was right in front of her face.
Grandma had bills to pay and likely little or no insurance to cover getting little Victoria's face fixed. So...gofundme.com was born. It had less than $1K before the story broke but when it went viral, over $100K was raised in a matter of days. That should cover a good amount of plastic surgery (plus another $30K from KFC who said they'd donate even if the story was false.
I'm glad that she's getting her face worked on (there were references of free plastic surgery as well) and I hope to heck that a lot of the people who donated are able to pull back their donations a la Vaba.
I kind of hope they don't pull their donations back. Whether her family is a big bunch of assholes or not that little girl is going to have a very rough life ahead of her without those surgeries, and she shouldn't be held responsible for the wrong doing of adults. Best case scenario would be all that money is put into a trust fund only to be accessed for her medical costs, and then if anything is left over, donated to the care of others in similar situations.
I get the feeling this family isn't the "put all the money in a trust fund to be only used for medical costs" kind of people.

It was snowing outside and he was fascinated, so he was going in and out of the doors (and then pressing his face up against the glass to feel the cold). I wasn't mad about being asked to leave (embarrassed was the right word), but trying to get him to stop an obsessive behavior is a nearly impossible task, short of removing him from the situation (ie, actually leaving). Suffice it to say, we don't go out to eat with him very often. Or take him to the mall. Or to concerts, festivals, car dealerships ....

I really don't want to diminish what happened to you (That is an embarrassing and frustrating situation to be in), but I am curious how you came to the conclusion "my kid was asked to leave due to his disruptive behavior, so of course I'd believe that a girl was asked to leave because of how her face looked."

It just seems like apples and oranges to me.
I'm not trying to be defensive, but have you ever been asked to leave a restaurant? Have you ever been asked to leave a restaurant for your child's behavior? That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying this little girl and my kid are the same. I'm saying, I've been asked to leave a chain restaurant, so I know it CAN happen. That's all.

I've got the feeling that once the surgeries are done (and even if they aren't) it's not like the money will be going to her directly; they'll find reasons to siphon it off for "needs" as time goes on, and I don't think they'll have it locked in a trust to prevent that from happening. They just don't seem the type, ya know? At least one plastic surgeon has offered to do the surgery for free (and I hope he does still) and KFC is still giving their $30K. I really don't want to see the rest of the family getting a payday because of their fraud by using her and her injuries. For some reason, a family that would use this little girl's injuries by faking an injury claim and putting her face all over the internet doesn't come across as the "honest and charitable" type, and they shouldn't come out ahead on the deal. HER yes, her family...not so much. And I don't think the family comes across as the good Samaritan type that would spread the wealth.

Well, yes, I have a few times. It happens when you grow up with special needs siblings.
I just know that an ignorant outsider can draw the conclusion "that kid *could* behave if they wanted to/the parents actually wanted to and they're just choosing to not correct the problem." This family was claiming they were asked to leave just because of what the girl's face looked like. It's not like anyone could look at her and say "well, she/her parents just aren't trying hard enough to make her look acceptable in public."
So I just wasn't understanding where you made the connection that the story had to be true based on your own experiences. Based on my personal experiences, I feel like they're 2 completely different situations.

Oh. I agree with you, they are probably not that sort of people. I just think that would be the ideal circumstances. I would not be the least bit sorry if KFC, made that a stipulation for agreeing not to press charges against them.

((Hugs)) without getting into it, I can relate a bit and I just want to give you hugs, it's hard with a child with obsessive behaviors but they look so "normal" you (general you) should be able to just stop them, right.
Jezebel says that homeless mom who left kids in the car to go to interview was also a hoax? Did we know this?
"Even the stories that involve real harm to kids turn out to be fake. That woman, who claimed she was homeless and on a job interview and just had to leave her two kids in a hot car, that turned out to be fake. She was later found to have a job and a home, where her kids lived. Yet, she managed to scam over $100,000 with a sad mugshot."

That's not accurate. There was a long piece in the NYT the other day about her. She put her mother's address on the forum the police had her fill out and people are like SEE SHE'S NOT REALLY HOMELESS!!

Let me find that article.
If that's the case Jezebel is being very shady here.
Mr. Montgomery, the prosecutor, has resisted this narrative of economic privation. Because Ms. Taylor listed an address — her parents’ — on her court papers, the prosecutor says she was not homeless. And because she listed a part-time job — the very part-time office aide job — she was not unemployed.

Being asked to leave is being asked to leave, though, right? That's embarrassing no matter what the circumstance.

I fully agree it's embarrassing. And that had this story been true, the family would have every right to feel embarrassed by it.
My confusion was just by your saying "I initially believed this kid was asked to leave due to her physical appearance because my own kid has been asked to leave due to his behavior," when "my kid was asked to leave because he was acting up" and "my kid was asked to leave because she was ugly" just seemed like apples and oranges to me.
But I also admit that even with my personal experiences with my family, I pretty much thought from Day 1 this family was making the whole thing up to scam for medical bill money. So maybe I'm just not seeing what you see because I never thought the initial story was true.
