Please explain how one goes about doing this. Thanks!
I use Birkenstock Cork Life (harder to find), but I think any cork sealer will do (there's quite a few on Amazon). You apply it to the exposed cork to keep the moisture out. There's already and thin coat on there when you buy them, but it wears off.
I wish I had known this! Mine looked so good for so long. My hairstylist asked me how I keep them looking good. I was confused and said because I walk on the bottom of them.
NOW they are crumbling. Probably too late for the cork sealer to stop it from happening more.
My Chacos died last week. I just received my Zappos shipment of a mix of Chacos and Brikenstocks (Gizeh and Miyari). I am not finding the Birkenstocks to be all that comfortable. Did you love them right away? I've walked around my living room and kitchen and am not feeling the adoration yet. I might just stick with the Chacos.
anna7602, I have gizehs and no. I've worn them a few times now (for many miles each time), and they're loosening up a bit but they still aren't foot orgasms. They aren't uncomfortable, but are nothing to write home about. Have never tried Chacos so I can't compare!

The soles were immediate foot orgasms. I am still adjusting to the straps (and I have ankle straps). But I want to take these soles out behind a middle school and get them pregnant.
I have a pair of the Mayari style. I bought them 4 years ago? Maybe? I'd say this summer is probably the first summer where I can wear them all the time with no issues. It takes a while for them to conform to your feet. I love them and I'm really glad they're "acceptable" again, though I've had them for a while.
YES I just bought a pair of these Tevas (not these special addition). Mr. mfluder shook his head at me tho.
Report back on how comfortable they are? I need to get a pair anyway for a trip in January (I need water shoes), but I'm considering buying them now to wear them this summer
It is more MM to have them to wear in real life though in addition to vacation, instead of just for vacation?

Which ones did you get, and which color?
They weren't the super fashionable silvery ones, but DSW had a few pair mixed in their clearance racks the other day. I think that's actually where I bought mine, back in the day.
My Tevas have been to 4 continents. It's my goal to take them to all 7. Well, I may just hold them to the ground if we ever make it to Antarctica. Don't think I'll be wearing those, at least not without socks.
Oh, and I only give it another year or two before Dansko clogs are considered the height of fall "normcore" fashion.
YESSSSSS!
I would love for more practical shoes to become a thing.
Me too!
I have decided that I will immediately buy any comfortable shoe that the world deems trendy, regardless of how ugly it is. (See Teva discussion above). Bring on the Danskos, fashion world!
I do fear the day, though, that my mother's 60-something-who-dresses-like-she-never-leaves-the-backyard wardrobe is entirely in fashion and she gets a big "I told you so."

You know, I already dance like Elaine. And I've warned my cube neighbors that in the event of a fire, I am pulling a Costanza. So I might as well dress like them!
I bought a pair of Adrias a week or two ago, partly inspired by this thread:
I also tried on the Gizehs. I liked that they didn't slap like flip flops (the Adrias kind of do), but the Gizeh's looked really bulky and clunky on my feet which I didn't like. I don't need help looking short and stubby! Plus the part around my toes rubbed a bit.
It took maybe 2 days of wearing over 4th of July weekend for them to be really comfortable. The leather had to soften up a bit. They aren't squishy-comfy like slippers, like you'd exclaim how awesome upon putting them on, but my feet so appreciate the support after long runs.
I think so. I'm no skinny minnie myself, and they are super comfy.
I have the Balis, and I was worried about the ankle straps and my cankles. But I actually wear them on the second-to-tightest hole! Honestly, I don't think people with skinny ankles could even wear the Balis without getting a cobbler to punch extra holes in the straps.

Thanks - I found some stores in Houston that carry Birks so I might go try some on this weekend
I'm just going to dump this in the comfy sandals thread. 6pm has some other heels for about half off right now. And I may be told I'm wrong, but these could actually be somewhat nice. I'd wear the black ones to work (but it's fairly casual in my office, I actually wore my birks all week). www.6pm.com/vionic-with-orthaheel-technology-mia-slide-w-strap-black
This may be a stupid question but I just was wondering something. I bought some Birkenstocks Gizeh here in Belgium. When I walk I hear a little "farting noise" . Is it normal to Birkenstocks to make this noise?
