And thank you for taking action and being responsible. FIL is in his 60s and I fear he will never do this. You get to have a relationship with your family because you were, and continue to be, strong enough to fight your addiction.

My XH is a binge drinker too, who will go weeks without a drink and then 3 weekends in a row he will get blackout drunk. It took a long time before I realized that he was an alcoholic. He still hasn't realized it. I sincerely hope that one day he will decide to save himself the way that you have.
My dad is also in recovery, but it took almost a decade in prison, at age 45, for him to finally get and stay sober. If he can do it, anyone can.
