I don't know anything about either tests, but just wanted to say good luck with whatever test you choose. So sorry you and your husband have to deal with with this...T&P your way.

**hugs** Sorry you guys didn't get better news at the NT scan. I would probably do the Karotype, since it is more comprehensive, even if it does take longer to come back. Good luck to you and your H.

So sorry you have to go through this. I hope the next test reveals much better news. Just remember NT scans do have a false positive rate. Only further testing can give you definitive answers. Keep your head up hon.
Thank you again everyone. I really appreciate it. (heart)
And Bonita and theatre4life thank you for your thoughts on karyotype. I will definitely be having that done. DH had a panic attack when I explained it took 2 weeks for results. He heard 2 days for FISH and just thought that's how long they all took.
We had to cancel today's apt since the office was out of network. As of right now its for sure on Monday but DH's cousin is an OB nurse so she is seeing if the MFM they refer to will squeeze us in today and I'm double checking insurance as we speak.

Oh sweetie. I'm so sorry to hear your NT didn't go well. I have no recommendations on your situation, but I just hope you get the answers you need in a timely manner.
If you need anything, feel free to PM me. Not sure if you're on the Eastside or not, but I do know some pretty great MFM specialists if it comes to it.
Unfortunately I do have experience with a high NT measurement. My story did not end well BUT I did a fair amount of research while we were in limbo and there are a lot of possible outcomes right now including a LOT of healthy babies born after high NT measurement. I believe hillarywhitney had a high NT measurement and just had her healthy baby.
For us, we did CVS and they did both the FISH and karyotyping; they told us they'd call us with prelim FISH results in a couple days and then the full results in a few weeks. Hopefully they can do that for you as well. Knowing what I know, I'd want the full karyotyping (although FISH gave us our answer).
Anyway, feel free to PM me with any questions you might have. IF you are interested, I can share the research that I found re: possible outcomes, although really you may just want to wait and see if you get a conclusive answer from the CVS. I was pretty scared of the CVS because it's considered invasive but it turned out to not really be a big deal. Good luck.

fayeelle (((hugs))) I'm so sorry the NT scan didn't go well.
Poppy is right. I had a slightly high NT measurement as well. My situation was a little different, in that they were concerned about possible heart issues. I had an echocardigram and they didn't see any issues. Currently my baby is 5 days old and healthy.
While my situation was a bit different, I know the waiting is so scary. I was a wreck waiting for the echocardigram. I had a hard time even thinking about the whole situation. I tried to ignore it. I was successful sometimes, and others I wasn't. I tried to avoid google. But often I'd spend hours googling similar situations. Sometimes it helped me feel hope, and others not. I wish I had some magical advice, but I was all over the place while we waited. Just try to take it moment by moment. You mentioned your DH has shut down, but it at all possible--try to lean on one another. And if you feel comfortable, perhaps talk with someone you are close to. I found it helpful to talk to my mom about what was going on.
I will be thinking good thoughts for you, your dh and your baby. I hope you get wonderful results from the CVS.
I apologize, I am very inexperienced, what exactly went wrong today, the baby is too big?
Not the baby; the measurement is of fluid at the back of the neck (nuchal translucency). A higher reading can be (though not always) indicative of serious chromosomal or cardiac problems with the baby. Typically additional testing is recommended; the definitive diagnostic tests are cvs or amnio. Both present some level of risk to the pregnancy, which is minimized as they are guided by ultrasound. Also depends on the skill level of your practitioner.

fayeelle, I've been thinking of you all weekend, and especially today. I'm sorry you've had to wait to get an appointment. I hope you were seen today and are closer to knowing more.
Please know that you can get through whatever the results are. I know it doesn't feel that way now, but it's true.
Spent time with your DH. Do things that nourish you. When I was waiting for the news, I spent time walking (and walking and walking), going to museums, connecting with people I love, and remembering there is beauty in the world -- even as I was experiencing fear and sadness.
I hope your story has a happy ending; we are all thinking of you.
First of all....Thank you all for being such an awesome support system. I appreciate it more than I could begin to put into words <3
As for an update - I was able to get in on Friday for the CVS. Overall the procedure wasn't too bad. It was definitely not the most comfortable thing in the world. It honestly seemed worse for DH as he couldn't believe I was just laying there. Well dude, I sure as shit can't move right now or we risk hurting the baby! I did have to take the next day off of work though because of my duties. The doc just didn't want to risk it.
We chose to start with FISH and go from there. I got a call at 4pm (why do they wait so damn long ?!) and was told everything checked out normal!!!! Ok, 1 test down and at least 2 more to go. Tonight we need to decide if we want the karyotype or microarray done. Both have their own pluses and minuses. We did not have them tell us the sex....yet. It's kind of hard to know but not know.
Now some asshattery of my own.....I had to make things more difficult for myself. Sigh. So, the CVS obviously carries a risk if miscarriage. I get the wild idea to use our Doppler at work to see if I can pick up a heartbeat. Mind you this is not a fetal doppler, we use it to check blood pressures in animals. Both my OB and myself have been able to find a heartbeat within 30 sec since 10wks. I try and get nothing, just my own. Que the freak out. Guess who took herself to Urgent Care? Yep. Ugh. The doc was nice and admitted she had done the same thing herself. She finally found the heartbeat after the longest 3 minutes of my life. 154, just where it was on Friday.
Now I'm going to stop freaking myself out for the next 2 weeks or so until my next appt and next set of results.

That's wonderful!! Well, except for your scare of not finding the heartbeat. At least you know not to do that again!
I'm so glad to hear you've gotten some good news! I hope much more good news is coming your way from the additional testing. Lots more hugs and good vibes your way!
That's such great news! I was thinking about you. I hope all the other tests come back fine.
And I love understanding doctors who get when we have those freak out moments. I've been told by my OB that if I ever wanted to come in and have them find the heartbeat because I was having anxiety to just call them.
fayeelle that is a good update! I hope that the tests continue to come back normal! Step away from the doppler ;-) glad you went to urgent care for peace of mind.
