I'm 8 weeks postpartum. I gained 35 pounds with pregnancy, lost 15 by one week postpartum and have lost nothing since then. I'm not breast feeding so I don't have that to fall back on. I signed back up for WW online and have been half heartedly tracking and trying to get some activity in a few days a week but my head and heart just aren't in weight loss mode yet. I do hate how I look and how none of my old clothes fit (even my fat clothes). I think I'm actually going to have to buy a couple of work pants before I back at the end of august because nothing fits and I don't want to look at my maternity pants ever again.
How long did it take moms here to lose the baby weight, and how did you get motivated to lose weight with a new baby and if you also work full time?
About 9 months but I gained 55 lbs during my pregnancy. It sure as hell was a lot longer than 8 weeks! I do work full time and didn't really do much to try to lose the weight (just trying to eat smaller portions and healthier but nothing extreme). I was still wearing my maternity pants for a few months postpartum. My closet is a mess right now with all the different sizes I've been in the past few years.
ETA: Sorry, I just reread this and it sounds like such a debbie downer post. I'm sure just about anyone is more disciplined than I was wrt weight loss and you'll do much better than I did!
The real motivator was to take time for myself every week. I was never a gym person, but if it meant an hour alone 2-3 times a week, I was all over that.
Well, I'm 5.5 months out and I'm still holding on to a lot of the baby weight. So there's that. lol. But I haven't really TRIED to lose any of it either.
Well, with L it took me about 8 weeks. With almost no effort, but I was BFing and dairy free. Yeah, you read that right.
With O, I'm 5 up from PP, which was 10 up from where I wanted/like to be, so he's 9 months old and I want to KILL EVERYONE who is all chirpy "9 months on, 9 months off!!!!" Fuck you people.
6-7 months, I can't remember. But, my body didn't start getting my PP shape back until 10 months or so. I still have a tummy pooch.
ETA: And I gained 70 pounds. I didn't really lose weight until I stopped bfing, so just know that the old wives tale that it helps lose the weight is fucking fraud and you're not missing out on some miracle weight loss gift from the heavens.
I gained 40 and lost all but about 5 pounds in I think 6 or so months. I was nursing, but I was also eating a lot so it wasn't like some magical weight loss cure for me. I definitely had to buy new pants when I went back to work.
I hear you though, I wasn't very motivated at all - and it wasn't until I was at least 4 months out from pregnancy that I finally felt somewhat motivated to do Weight Watchers and try to lose the last 10.

I didn't.
I gained about 70lbs with DD1 and never did get back to pre pregnancy size. I got *close* ... 12 lbs away.
I'm hoping not to gain QUITE as much with DD2 (about 2.5 months to go and I've only gained about 20lbs) so I'm hoping to be closer to that lowest 'mom' weight with in a few months of birth.
I will say that I didn't do much of anything to TRY and lose the main weight. I lost 40 lbs just from not being pregnant & nursing, then stayed about 30lbs overweight for the better part of a year. Lost the next 18 lbs with diet & exercise (booo boring LOL) and then gained it back. However the month I finally got pregnant with DD2 I had just lost 10 of those 18lbs again. Who knows.
First baby, I hung onto 25 extra pounds for three years. Then I went back to work and lost it fast. Once I wasn't home all day with unlimited snacks the weight was easy to lose.
Second baby I'm five months out and only ten pounds over. I just started a stricter diet to see if baby was having food sensitivities and it's dropping fast again because I can't snack on whatever I want.
So clearly my problem is snacking and self control. When that is out of the way it was easier to get back to prepregnancy weight.
#1: lost all plus 5 in 4 months (age 32) #2: lost most by 6 months, still 5lbs from where I want to be at 15 months PP (age 37)
Nursed both for 14 months - did NOT have magical weaning weight loss with either. FU to "the body holds onto that last 5ish lbs" - LIES.
Yeah. I was totally counting on that, so I'd lose 5 when I quit, be 5 up from ideal weight and love life. Then I quit nursing 2 weeks ago and gained FIVE POUNDS IN A WEEK.

I gained 50 lbs and it's taken a year to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Though I have to say my body shape is different now. I haven't been exercising like I did before. I am still BFing. Not sure if that has helped or not.

SUCK.
I just had my first PP period. I was hoping that will provide some magical hormone that will get rid of these five lbs. They are currently residing half inside my waistband and half outside of it. :/ GTFO.
I gained 45 with Ollie. When I left the hospital I was a few pounds heavier (!!) due to swelling. I was down 25 pounds after 8 weeks, then it took until 6 months for the rest to come off. Then it kept coming off and I wound up 5-10 pounds below what I was, which was too thin. I made it up when I stopped bf'ing.
I started with the 30 day shred and easing myself back into running 1-2 days a week. When the 30 days was over I started doing the No More Trouble Zones DVD which I really liked. Then when Ollie was old enough I took him to the gym once or twice a week to do spin classes and upped my mileage. Then I started training for a half marathon.

Gained 38, lost all but probably 5 within 8 weeks. At around 6 months I lost between 5-10 pounds randomly. I also started my pregnancy 10 lbs higher than where I like to be, so it really was 6 months before I was at my ideal weight. I read that sometimes when you're ebfing your body holds onto extra fat and will let it go once the body realizes you don't need it. Sounds hokey to me, lol.
I worked out my entire pregnancy (fitness is really important to me). Motivation to lose weight was wanting to get back into my clothes, vanity, wanting to feel like myself.
I got VERY swollen at the end of my pregnancy and I think a lot of my weight was water. That helps for losing.
Uhh... 2 years, 2 months and counting. Actually, thanks to the magic of breastfeeding, I lost all the baby weight plus about 10 pounds really quickly (in 12 weeks?). But when that was over, I gained everything back and then some.

Well I'm glad to see it wasn't a magical 2-3 months to lose all the weight for everyone because I for some stupid reason thought most women lost it quickly and I was way behind being 8 weeks pp and still being 20 pounds over. I told H the other day that I felt like trying to lose weight was one extra thing during mat leave that I couldn't tack on to keeping kid alive, taking care of dogs, getting some sleep, trying to keep the house from completely falling apart. I'm hoping when I go back to work in a few weeks I'll be able to focus on losing some weight because I do well with the routine of work and what I eat each day.
I'm sure drinking alcohol almost every day this summer hasn't helped with weight loss (usually one beer or glass of wine a day).
My postpartum body experience was weird. I gained almost 30lbs, lost it all in three weeks after I had David. Still, none of my pants fit and never will again no matter what weight I am. Anyway, I slowly put on weight, about 15 pounds, then was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and never could get a handle on it since then. I'll probably always have these extra 15 pounds but I'm okay with it. /shrugs
#1 it was all off in 6 weeks, plus another 15 by 4 months (gained it back when I weaned) #2 I'm still hanging on to between 5 & 9 lbs and he's going to be a year old this week. I haven't done anything different between the two...except possibly more exercise this time. I can't diet because my milk supply drops every time I even THINK about cutting calories. Sadly, this is part of the reason I'm looking forward to weaning.
