Ups?
Downs?
QOTW: How soon did you take LO out? Or how soon are you planning on taking LO out? Did you limit the visitors or ask them to wash their hands before touching LO?
Post by dulcemariamar on Jul 24, 2012 1:15:24 GMT -5
Ups: I had a great apt. last week but the Dr. couldn't see clearly the sex so I guess we have to wait another 4 weeks to find out.
Downs: I have been uncomfortable this week because of the the heat. I feel dizzy and tired.
QOTW: I guess I am just going to wait and see because LO is due in January. I will probably stay home the first two weeks to recover and then start off with walks or small errands around the neighborhood.
Since we are going to be in the middle of cold and flu season, I am going to ask people to stay away if they are sick and to wash their hands before touching LO in the beginning. This wont go over well with my in-laws and family. (My BIL actually went to visit his SIL in the hospital the day she gave birth even though he knew he had the flu). I just want people to use common sense. Or maybe, I am asking for too much?
I would like to be re-added, please. I don't post very often but I do enjoy being a part of the group. I'm in Australia and my son Benjamin was born September 26, 2010.
Ups: DS is sleeping better through the night and has been behaving better during the day. We just recently went on a road trip and he did very well being in the car for so long.
Downs: We are TTC #2 but have to put it on hold for a few months as I need a Rubella booster.
QOTW: DS was 6 days old when we first took him out (to a shopping centre) and we had some family come meet him the next day. We don't have much family nearby and I had no friends at the time so that was really the only time we had visitors at the beginning. I had them wash their hands before touching him. My family came to meet him when he was 5 weeks old and we did a lot of site seeing with him.
Ups: N has been in good form a lot recently and is a lot easier to entertain - she likes constant interaction and it has become easier since she is now self propelled in an upright position! We have started to eat our evening meal all together and this has been nice. Up until recently it wasn't really an option but she sits at the table with us and can sit there a bit longer now and will eat some of the things we eat - mainly if it is pasta or chicken!!
Downs: Other than waking and crying out in the middle of the night, not a lot really. Though I'm trying to get her out of the habit of crying out - the last 2 nights I haven't gone in to her and she has settled on her own pretty quickly. Just like she used to do up until a few weeks ago!!!
QOTW: DH brought her out to the shops when she was 3 or 4 days old, to give me a break. Family called over to see her from the time we got home from hospital on day 3 but dh kept their visits short if he thought we needed that - he had no trouble saying it to our families, who all live near us. I would have had her out and about fairly early on as I couldn't stand being stuck in the house all day!!

Ups: 5 weeks to go, and I *think* I figured out what I need to do to start getting more sleep. W is a lot of fun and super-sweet.
Downs: I'm not getting much sleep at all. Last night wasn't so bad, we'll see how tonight goes. Also this baby moves and kicks much, much more than W did.
QOTW: What's odd is that my MIL, who flew over a few days after W was born, was the only person who didn't wash her hands. She basically went from the airport to our house via public transportation without washing her hands and immediately grabbed W. I wasn't expecting her to do that, I thought she would've known. Every other visitor washed their hands without us saying anything... but the person that touched the grossest stuff (our subways, as most are, are nasty. I don't even let my H sit on our bed until he changes out of his work clothes), doesn't think to wash her hands before touching her grandson. Needless to say, the next time she visited we told her to wash her hands and she looked at us like we were crazy.
As for other things, except for a return trip to the hospital the day after we were released because they forgot to run a test on him, he didn't leave the apartment until he was about 2 weeks. We went for a short stroller walk and he hated it. Then at 3 weeks we did our first overnight trip so that he could get his passport.
Hello ladies! I have missed a lot during my long absence. Huge congratulations to all the pending bumps. Hopefully I am still able to join in the updates here.
Ups: DS is learning so much! I can't get over how much he knows, and how fast he can pick up stuff.
Downs: I have major mama guilt for having to send DS to daycare full time. We have just had week after week of daycare germies/illness. This week it's conjunctivitis, last week it was a tummy bug. I have to take 1-2 days off per week b/c he's been catching anything and everything. The winter cold, wind and rain isn't helping.
QOTW: We took DS out when he was a few days old. It was warm out, and it was just to a local cafe for an antenatal group coffee. He also spent his first 6 Wednesday evenings at our neighborhood pub quiz
Ups: I'm still pregnant! And not as nauseated every day, am definitely eating better. Downs: Still anxious. 2 weeks and 1 day until my anatomy scan and I can't really think about anything else. Also, I've gained 14 lbs and have a tiny bump so looking at all the pictures, it's pretty much going on my arms and my face. Super, super attractive look. (Yes, it's petty and totally worth it, but I really want a proper bump!)
QODT: I have no idea how I'm going to feel about this. We just had friends round with their 5 week old and they looked so tired and so overwhelmed, they were super, super happy to let me play with her for an hour. I had washed my hands, but they didn't ask. So I'm wondering if when it's me, all my plans right now might go out the window from sheer exhaustion!
Ups: My back pain is completely gone. My energy level is getting better and I'm having less trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Lately it had been about 7 now its about 3.
Downs: I feel like I'm getting impatient to meet the new LO. I'm really trying to enjoy the sanity that is my life right now with just DS. I think the fact that we are Team Green with this one makes me impatient.
QOTD: We took DS out 2 weeks after his debut. He arrived 4 weeks early and we still had not bought his furniture so that required us to take him out. We had a bassinet for him but not a crib or change table. With this one, I will try to aim for 2 to 3 weeks. When my MIL and mom arrived here (a month afterwards) my mom immediately reached for him when they got off the plane and through customs. I told her no and said why don't we wait until we get home and you can wash your hands. She was dying to hold him. When we got home she went upstairs to wash her hands and DH had taken DS out of his carrier and handed him to his mom (without her hands washed). I just gave DH a death glare because I felt bad for my mom and two he didn't make MIL wash her hands which was the whole purpose of getting them home so soon.

Thanks for cleaning up the list a bit!
Ups? DD is in a really cute phase and it is obvious that she is learning so much every day. She's making all sorts of cute little connections between words.
Downs? I've had a lot more nausea in the past few days. Yesterday, if I was upright for more than about 5 minutes at a time, the nausea hit. So I spent most of the day on the couch.
QOTW: How soon did you take LO out? Or how soon are you planning on taking LO out? Did you limit the visitors or ask them to wash their hands before touching LO?
Well, DD was a preemie, so we didn't even leave the hospital until she was 2.5 weeks old, and then we would occasionally go on walks with her in her stroller, but that was about it. I felt really uncomfortable taking her places where there were other people. Honestly, even though we did it sometimes, that fear lasted until she was about 6 or 7 months old. I didn't mind visitors coming over, but they had to wash their hands and use the disinfectant the hospital gave us to take home. No one had a problem washing their hands, and the first time we saw a big part of DH's family together, she was very open in her praise of us telling people to wash their hands before they touched her, so that was great.
BFP1: DD born April 2011 at 34w1d via unplanned c/s due to HELLP, DVT 1 week PP
BFP2: 3/18/12, blighted ovum, natural m/c @ 7w4d
BFP3: DD2 born Feb 2013 at 38w3d via unplanned RCS due to uterine dehiscence
ups- M started day camp on Friday, he is loving it. He has been missing school since the holidays started. He turned 4 on Saturday! downs- We are missing the grandparents this summer, it's the first time we aren't travelling to Canada for the summer.
qotw- They kept us in the hospital for 5 days and we went to a restaurant the night we got out. We got a lot of comments as the Vietnamese generally don't bring their babies out before one month old.

UPs: DD has become quite the little lady. I can´t believe how fast she´s grown. Downs: I still don´t understand half of what she says :-(
QOTD: We took her for a ride in the pram when she was a week old. The weather was great and my pediatrician stessed that we needed to get out everyday for a bit. Said it was good for the immune system, and I can honestly say that she was hardly ever sick. I took her to the grocery store when she was 3 weeks old, but in the carrier and nobody touched her. We didn´t have a lot of guests, and DH greeted them at the door and gave them some hand sanitizer or offered to let them use our sink to wash their hands.
While we're not actively TTC yet, we will be ASAP. I'd love to be added to the TTC list! We're in Canada right now, but will probably be headed to Mexico in a month, unless I score some fabulous job back in the US.
Ups: I know they're there, but right now, I'm struggling to find them. I guess I'm lucky to have a super awesome doctor and a husband who is 100% supportive of me and me doing what is right for myself/my body. That and US healthcare is so much better (for me anyway) than Polish healthcare.
Downs: Eugh. Sitting around waiting to physically complete a miscarriage is more draining than I thought it would be.
QOTD: I can speak to my cats, but not to any human children. We took our cats out right away.

Mouse: I added your name to the list.
Tktravels: I added your name to the TTC list. I put that you are in Canada. I dont know if you want me to write TTC#1 or 2. For now I left it blank. Let me know if you want me to add something. T&Ps. I am glad that you are getting such great care and your DH is being so awesome.

Ups: dd is still loving swimming lessons, and I enjoy it on our day off too Downs: her sleeping is still goofy - she wakes up every night at about 1am demanding that I bring her into the spare bed with me. We tried to break this bad habit one weekend and it was a nightmare, so we'll just continue on like this for a bit & see where we go.....
QOTW: we took dd out for a walk at 8 days old. She had a nice warm pram, and we kept her away from germy people! From about 4 weeks I took her weekly to my mothers group meetings, she did get a cold at 6 weeks from one of the other babies, but I was SO glad to be getting out & seeing people When people came to our home I did ask them to wash their hands before holding her & we carried hand sanitizer around for ourselves while out, I very rarely let people hold her while we were out though unless they were family or had sanitized!!
Ups: I don't have any real cravings yet, nor am I crying at the drop of a hat. So woo hoo on that. I am still semi-normal.
Downs: I am running out of maternity clothes because I am on my third pregnancy with most of them and frankly they just aren't making it. And I show early, stay plumpy late so I am in them for like a year to a year and a half. And NOTHING in this country fits me. Now I have to resort to ordering from the UK because I don't speak any other languages and hope I get sizing right. Le sigh.
QOTD: 3 months. Seriously. We take the little one NO WHERE for 3 months and discourage visitors. But she is due at peak cold/flu season, smoking in public is common, and I have in the past 5 years only see a dozen people actually use soap when they wash their hands in a bathroom (if they even bother to wash at all). Including most of our friends. GROSS. I trust no one and nothing. Besides, it is usually rainy, windy, cold, and miserable so I really don't mind sitting in a warm comfy house with my feet up cuddling my baby while the husband runs all my errands. Hell, I actually look forward to it.
