So glad that you listened to your body and went to the ED. After my PE, I got sent home on Coumadin rather than Lovenox. But it takes a while for it to get into a therapeutic range, so you may go home on both. Let me know if I can do anything for you. I'm right down the street.
Thanks womet I am doing exactly what you mentioned: both Lovenox and Coumadin until Coumadin is in a therapeutic range. I gave myself Lovenox injections for two weeks after my ankle surgery, so while I'm not excited about it, I know what will be involved.

It shouldn't take that long for the Coumadin to get in therapeutic levels. I think mine was there in ~4 days. Check out this site for a list of foods and how much Vitamin K they have in them. Try to maintain the amount you eat each day so that your INR doesn't drop. I had a hard time maintaining mine, and had to nearly eliminate all green things from my diet for several months.

Thanks for the reminder. H picked up my prescriptions and said that I should read the food interactions, but I haven't looked at it yet. This sounds challenging. :-#
UPDATE: We got home around noon EST. Sorry for not updating sooner! The clots haven't progressed above my knee, which is good. The ER doctor and my PCP weren't even sure if it needed to be treated, but given that my mobility is still reduced and after conferring with the hematologist, they and H felt more comfortable taking the conservative route and treating with anticoagulants. So I'll have Coumadin pills for three months, and Lovenox injections until the Coumadin level is regulated. Apparently Coumadin is kind of a pain because it has to be monitored weekly at first. Good thing I'm on maternity leave? My leg still hurts, so I'm taking ibuprofen and using compression hose for the pain.
We were gone for 5.5 hours, so I fully expected M to be losing his mind, even after the 3 oz. of pumped milk. My mom did have some ready to eat formula in case he started fussing before we got home, but he was fast asleep when we got home! I nursed him quickly so I could get to my physical therapy appointment at 1:30. This was my first PT appointment and it took me over a week to get in, so I really didn't want to miss it. You should have seen the therapist's face when I said I spent the morning in the ER with DVT.
I had pumped milk in two bottles (one from each side), and we had left one at room temperature and refrigerated the other one. Apparently M even drank the cold milk straight from the fridge with little complaint! So far, so good with the bottles. Only good thing to come from this ordeal
I told H that I'm tired of having things wrong with me. I had no health problems (other than anxiety) before this summer! He said I'm running out of things to be wrong, but I can think of a lot of bad things that haven't happened yet. Maybe thinking positive would be more helpful for me
Thanks so much for all your good wishes. It seems like this is more an annoyance than anything else as it hasn't progressed above my knee or broken off (that's the really scary risk of DVT). But when we went to the ER this morning I was like "FUCK NO I am not going to the ER when I have a broken ankle and a two-week-old at home." When does it end??

You can still eat dark leafy greens (vit k) on Coumadin if you are consistent during the monitoring phase and thereafter. (That's why it's easier to say none.)

Sorry about the DVT. I'm sure you were told this, but just in case you weren't, both Coumadin and Lovenox are safe to take while breastfeeding

Yes, thanks for confirming! That was my biggest concern (other than keeping myself alive, haha).
Glad to hear you are home and that the baby and your mom managed okay. How are things going with your mom?
Good! She's only been pushy with baby-rearing things a few times, and I think I shut her down pretty quickly She's really in her element with the baby, and it has been amazing to have her around.
I do have to admit that taking care of a newborn is more fun than taking care of a grown woman who can't walk. LOL
Girl, you have such a great outlook even with such a hard few months. You are such a good example of how to roll with it
I hope you have no more setbacks and get back to your normal leg soon
Thanks, zara. I think I might play it off better here than IRL. I woke up H at 6 am by sobbing in bed and asking him if I was going to lose my leg. Holy overreaction. But having to go to the ER today just seemed like more than I could handle. THANK GOD M took the bottle, because if my mom called and said he was pitching a fit and wouldn't eat, I may have lost my mind.

This is what I'm confused about. On what scale do I need to be consistent? Like one serving a day? So if I'm not going to eat spinach/kale/etc. daily, should I skip it altogether? cc: womet

Try to eat around the same amount each day. You'll be surprised how much Vit K is in lettuce. I would print off the pdf from the website I linked to, and just try to be aware of how much you are eating. Don't stress about it too much though.
