Sooooooo! I went this morning and put dibs on a really awesome kitty. Just waiting for my landlord to call them back, and I can bring her home! Her name is Medora (for now), she is a little over a year old which means she'll have fun playtime mode for awhile. She jumped right on my lap and made herself comfy. She's a little pygmy cat, about 6 lbs, but has lion scruff around her neck. She is pretty self-assured and curious, and really affectionate. I think we'll get along great!

Scooters. Hands down. First and foremost, he came right to you for petting. Next, shorthaired black cats are the best (but be caregful to keep him inside on Halloween). Third, dude knows how to rock a bowtie!

Good luck! I don't know if it's an option for you, but I second (or third or fourth) what others have said about getting two. They'll keep each other company while you're out, and two cats is definitely not twice the work of of. Hardly any extra effort, and you'll have twice the purrs. (And twice the furballs, but who's counting?) Also, thank you for adopting an adult cat. They are so often overlooked in favor of their cute miniatures!
