Really? I think the media made things worse. Much worse. Once he beat Alabama in Alabama, he couldn't pick his nose without it being a national story.
Really. The media mostly focused on his off-season antics.
Asshole on the field = asshole off the field.
I'm not saying his doesn't have douchey qualities, but I don't think the media let him off easy at all. They took anything he did and beat it to the ground (and still do). He was also 20 when he was suddenly nationally famous, seemingly overnight, so I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt until they grow up a little. (and other than the money sign at the draft, he really hasn't done much - I don't consider a 21/22 year old kid going to Vegas a big deal).
See also Tim Tebow. One of the reasons I cannot stand Tebow is due to the all Tebow all the time coverage. See also Bryce Harper (b'ball player) who was a cocky SOB when he was in the minors, at age 18 (blowing kisses to opposing pitchers after HRs, etc.) and has matured tremendously since he's been brought up to the majors.
Apparently I felt like you needed some citations tonight!
ETA: I'm an A&M fan, so I'm biased, but I don't see where he's an asshole on the field. He did some stupid thing against Rice at the beginning of last season, but it was after the Rice players were jawing at him the entire game. Not saying it was the right thing to do, that's the only thing I remember him doing.
I'm pretty shocked about the South Carolina/A&M game. I'm by no means a SC fan (I've hated Spurrier since his Florida days), but I didn't expect A&M to rebound so well after losing both Manziel and Evans.
And I've never seen SC play so poorly. It's like they forgot there was a game today, minus a few plays.
Tebow had a ton of attention too. You certainly didn't see him acting like Manziel has and continues to act. So, it can be done without the poor behavior.
Manziel does a lot of crap that is nice that you don't see or hear about at all. I'm neutral on him, don't hate him, don't love him, but he can be a really nice guy when the spot light is not on him. He's definitely cultivating a brash, douchey persona in the media.
Oh well. I think we're just not going to agree and that's fine.
Let's talk about what a badass Kenny Hill is instead.
Or what a badass system he is playing in.
Lol! But you still have to be a good player in sumlins system!
and re: the bird flipping last week was completely immature. I don't consider that douchey. And the redskins players thought it was hysterical because they had been fucking with him the whole game. Orakpo gave him the money sign after someone else sacked manziel.
Yes this is the stuff I'm talking about. Thank you for posting. I was alone in here. He does a lot of good. From that his "Keeper" said he did a lot with the at risk youth in BCS. But that doesn't get any media attention.

I am just bitter because people call the QBs out of UH "system QBs," including Keenum under Sumlin. Sumlin deserved a shot on the big stage, but it is funny how things change once you get there.
I just like your consistency. News made it sound like Case had a rough night so he may be closer to going back to UofH

They gave up the most yards in school history. Pretty surprising game.

Or about how the SEC West is going to beat the crap out of each other this season. Everyone is ranked except for Arkansas and Mississippi State and State could potentially be ranked early on. Anyone has a shot at the SEC Championship (even Ole Miss). It's going to be an exciting season.

I just quoted you because Les Miles drinking the grass smoothie is my favorite part of that commercial.
Sporting scarlet & gray at work today and have a plate of Buckeye bars (SO much easier than dipping pb balls in chocolate - recipe: www.tastebook.com/recipes/2599169-Graham-Cracker-Buckeye-Bars) on an Ohio State plate on my desk... Yes, I'm ready for tomorrow!! Braxton Miller or not, looking forward to some Big10 football!
Lol at comparing Manziel to Tebow. Tebow was totally a media thing. He wasn't an asshole, but everyone knew he wouldn't succeed in the NFL (except for him), and the media kept trying to make.it.happen. (and of course he played for Florida, which takes a loooong time to forgive. lol)
Manziel is just an immature little twit of a DB. Still. And he should be able to handle the spotlight by now. It's been on him long enough.
A&M fans everywhere should be saying "Johnny who?" today and that is a very very good thing.

agree with ALLLLL of this. I have been saying all year that Manziel is too immature for the spotlight, and for the NFL. he needed to stay in college for one more year just to grow the fuck up. as for what he does in the off season? whatever, he's 22, we all did crazy shit when we were 22. I know people who know him (never met him personally although I've had the opportunity) and they say he is basically a good guy. he's just very immature with lots of $$ (his family comes from money too, so he had it even as a college player).
and if Kenny Hill plays like that all season, we've got a shoo-in for the Heisman this December. that would be MADNESS! in a good way, lol. Kenny Touchdown!
