I've been reading the comments about our hotel on TripAdvisor and noticed that several people mentioned calling the hotel to check on their room and mentioning that it is their anniversary - then when they got there they received upgraded rooms and special treatment at dinner or champagne in their room.
Our vacation is over our anniversary - so would you call the hotel and ask for anything? If so, what would you say?
If there's a section for comments in the reservation form, I will normally write that we're celebrating something (if we are). Otherwise, with small hotels I sometimes email to confirm my reservation and mention it. Sometimes it's acknowledged and sometimes it isn't.
Yes! Nothing to lose. My birthday is over New Years, My H's on the 4th of July and our anniversary is over Memorial Day so we are always traveling to celebrate something.
When we are checking in, I ALWAYS say it's a special occasion (and it's often apparent on our Driver's License for our birthdays). Like the pp, I put it in the comments section if applicable.
We do travel a good bit, so it's sort of a "game" now to see what kind of upgrade we get upon check in. We've gotten stuff from bottles of champagne to suite upgrades.
We just got upgraded to the Club Level at the Ritz for our anniversary (approx $1000/nt room + free food and drinks and we paid for the cheapest room). Just ask with a nice smile If you never ask, the answer is always "no."
I'd mention it in the reservation form or casually at the front desk at check-in. You never know, so I'd give it a try. It has usually given me good results
I always mention when we are traveling for an occasion. Sometimes it leads to an upgrade or chocolates or something. Most recently, we stayed at a beach resort for my husband's birthday, and they gave us a random/pretty xmas tree ornament as a little souvenir for his birthday. Nothing to lose.
