Dinner at The Macintosh was solidly tasty. We shared four starters and a burger, much to the shock and disbelief of our server. "That's a good amount of food you ordered."
Why, yes, it was.
We are crazy. I don't recommend eating this much. LOL. The menu changes almost daily, so it's unlikely you will have the same menu items (except for the burger, which is always there).
Seafood charcuterie--snapper crudo, wreckfish bologna, grouper head terrine, pickled pepper tartar, fried pickles, toast points. STAR OF THE NIGHT!!! If this happens to be on the menu, you must get!!!
Peking quail, ploye, carrots, scallions, fish sauce aioli
Oh man, there are so many good places. You already have a good list so I'll refrain from shouting out other options which I'm sure you considered already lol.
Yes, I need more time!
I couldn't get a reservation at FIG!
I was also interested in the following (for peachy's benefit): Martha Lou's Kitchen The Ordinary Poogan's Porch Two Boroughs Larder
You guys have a lot of great stuff!
It was hard to decide, and I consulted my co-worker's brother, who used to work in the kitchens of Husk and McCrady's.
Poogan's Porch is my absolute favorite. Best biscuits in town.
Today we started with The Glass Onion. FABULOUS MEAL. FABULOUS DEAL. MUST GO.
Deviled egg
Gumbo
Watermelon and feta
Crab cakes and grits
Fried pig ear po boy
We headed to Sugar Bakeshop in the afternoon, but it was closed for Labor Day weekend.
But we tried WildFlour Bakery nearby and were very very happy that we did! My husband had fresh blackberry lemonade, and I had an iced coffee. We shared the following fantastic treats. Pecan sticky buns are their specialty, but they are only available on Sunday (and they sell out)!
Apricot pistachio cupcake
Blueberry pistachio tart (amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing)
We walked down Bay Street and saw this.
It turned out to be an electrical fire at McCrady's, where we were supposed to have our fancy dinner. (wilted)
Instead of a four-course meal to celebrate our anniversary, we headed to a seafood dive.
Bowen's Island Restaurant is a local institution and anything but fancy. A big difference from what we'd planned. LOL.
Big Ole Seafood Platter
Frogmore Stew
As if that weren't enough, we made one last late-night stop at Butcher & Bee for delectable sandwiches because, hey, we're here, and we can. We got them to go and ate them in our hotel room down the street. cc: Bonita
@misoangry I'm SUPER happy you made it to Butcher & Bee!!! That Grayson Grilled Cheese looks amazing - I know they change their menu, but I am hopeful they'll have that when I am able to make it there
I'm sad to hear about the fire at McCrady's and that Sugar Bakeshop was closed! Looks like you had a good time nonetheless

We had a great time, and I'm thrilled I got to try Butcher & Bee. Really tasty sandwiches. Such odd hours. LOL.

@misoangry, we're considering Charleston for a 10th anniversary trip next spring. Thumbs up or down? I think I'd objectively love it but I don't know if there's enough to do there to sustain 5 or 6 nights. Bonita and TR, you too.

I think better for a two- or three-night trip.
Good info. Key West was also on our potentials list. Maybe we could split the trip. Thanks!
I've often pictured the scenario of spotting a GBCNer. Would I drop hints? Say hi? I don't know. I feel like sidling up to someone and muttering, "Does MisoAngry mean anything to you??" could end badly.
