Birth has so many smells that I can totally imagine poop not being something you smell. LOL at the people that think birth doesn't smell.
I'm not sure how many births you've participated in, but I've never noticed a smell unless the woman farts or poops. I've only done 2 rotations in ob though so far, so not a ton of experience. But my nose is pretty sensitive to hospital smells and giving birth (minus pooping and farting) smells like roses compared to many other things.
I've been going to deliveries for nearly 8 years now (to do the baby part) and there are definitely some crazy smells. Not every single one of course, but yeah, the poop and fart smells could easily get covered up by others lol.
It was just more graphic this time around...too many specific, personal and vivid experiences recounted.
mine smelled terrible. I had no doubts about what had just gone down. My husband even gave me a look. My very first push. I really thought I was hot shit too (insert obvious joke), but the joke was on me. At least I'm consistently overconfident in my abilities.

H said I made a little poop, but it was "cute". It probably was, compared to the gush of blood and fluid that followed, and the sight of what happened to my vag when the baby came out.
Nurses are the best. They will scoop it up and clean up without saying a word. And if you are pooping, you are pushing the right way, so that is good.
And I remember my body doing a good job of cleaning itself out right I went into labor, so it wasn't like there was a lot to poop when I was in labor.
But more concerning was that first poop after birth. Take your stool softeners and drink lots of water. That is the best advice you will need.

My H said mine looked like a large cat when the baby started coming out. I'd been a little lax in the grooming department obviously. That's what he gets for looking after I specifically asked him not to.
Also, if you're induced you get no such luxury of your body cleaning itself out. I suppose if you have enough discipline to not devour a #1 from Wendy's with a Frosty en route to the hospital you could mitigate the problem somewhat. Fuck that though. I was hungry.
As someone that has not yet had children/decided one way or the other, I appreciate the information on what really goes down.
No poop when they slice you open! YW
I had a csection, and thought I was safe in that regards. Unfortunately I hemorrhaged, and the drug they gave me (hemabate) has the side effect of completely emptying your bowel. I was disapointed. I couldn't move due to the spinal, and had to have a nurse just hand out with me behind my bed curtain cleaning me up while my parents and inlaws held my twins. I wanted to die that they all knew I was pooping and couldn't clean it up myself.
Look, pooping on a table in front of God and country was the best part of my pregnancy. Even at the worst newborn moments all I could think was, "at least I'm not pregnant." Down with gestation!

Not necessarily!
The Wendy's meal you described is, in fact, what I had on the way to the hospital before I was induced w/ N. My body got rid of errrrything before any pushing started. I'm not sure H was ready for that, but he did say I had a poop free delivery (yes, I asked).
However, I don't remember as much, um, clearing out during my induction w/ E, and I didn't ask either. So I guess I'm batting 0.500.

Man.. I can't wait.
In retrospect, whenever I was in the hospital for two weeks for gallstones/gallbladder (with no bowel movements) .. i was terrified to poop for the first time. I don't want to imagine pooping after child birth..

Most deliveries aren't smelly to me. I've been in a couple of poop deliveries that were very smelly. I will say chorio is probably the worst though. Heaven forbid a chorio baby get put on CPAP and not get bathed for days .

AAAAAMEN.
I went to a chorio c/s, and yeah. That was unforgettable, in many ways.

Are you saying that you also unknowingly shit the bed during labor because you were numb from the waist down, and that your husband mercifully kept that info from you until the next day? Because if you're not, then neither am I.
I also want to say that my experience is a little different but I'll be delivering with a room full of coworkers lol.
This is why I refuse to deliver at my hospital. Its going to be more expensive, but I can't have my colleagues seeing me shit on the table!
I work in the ICU, but we get alot of pregnant women who hemorrhaged or MVCs with pregnant women, so the L&D nurses and docs come down to check fetal heart tones and pregnancy related stuff all the time. We get pretty close with those RNs and MDs.
Well, any trace of baby fever I might've had is gone forever.
I guess you weren't around for the "nastiness of pregnancy" epic thread that originated on MM? Now that will instantly get rid of your baby fever.
Nope, and I'm thinking that's probably a good thing. I want kids, but nothing about pregnancy, child birth, or the first 5 years of life appeals to me, lol. Kind of a quandary.

I didn't have any issues pooping after I gave birth.
