I've battled migraines for close to 20 years. Sometimes I'll get floaters as a warning, or vomit if the pain becomes intense.
Recently, I've developed a new symptom. My vision is blacking out. It's only ever in one eye, not both. My field of view is completely covered except for the outer edge.
I know visual disturbances can be common while experiencing a migraine, but this is new and kinda freaky to me.
Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do about it? Oh the Places You'll Go! *i am here*
Sounds like an ocular migraine. It isn't super common to have both a migraine and ocular migraine at the same time, but it happens. They usually aren't anything to worry about, but any new symptoms makes a trip to the doctor worth it.
I get these too; not very frequently though. It is always in my left eye where I will get blurred vision or lose almost all vision. My Dr. wasn't too concerned, but sent me for some testing and to a neurologist who also pretty much said it sucks and is scary, but they aren't harmful.
I've been getting migraines for over 25 years. For a period of time during college, I had vision disturbances with most of my migraines. I would lose partial vision or complete vision in one eye, usually my left. I tried several different preventative medications at that time, and when I finally found one that helped decrease the frequency and severity of the migraines, it helped to decrease the frequency of the visual disturbances as well. I rarely get the visual disturbances anymore (unfortunately, I still get migraines frequently).
As the PPs said, I would check in with your dr (which I always do when I have a change in symptoms), and hopefully they can work with you to help find a solution.
