I've heard that one is terrifying. My husband is friends with the director (his sister and the director were high school sweethearts) so he really wanted me to watch it with him, but I really don't like scary movies. It looked good though!

I love scary movies, but I feel like so many of them have gotten lazy these days. Too much torture porn and not enough genuine fear. HOLY SHIT this one is scary. That is the best endorsement I can give it.
Seriously though. If you like scary movies, watch it.
Brother and sister now grown up, fighting evil thing from their childhood. Story of what happened back then unfolds simultaneously with present-day story. It all revolves around a haunted mirror.
I love campy horror movies like Cabin in the Woods and Scream and movies like The Descent that couldn't really happen.
What do you predict my feelings on this one will be?
It is not campy or funny at all. It is terrifying. There is some gore, but it is not gratuitous. There's a lot of not knowing what is real or not. Does that help?

ETA - Although I did like the movie Event Horizon, which also scared the crap out of me. The concept of hallucinations sounds quite similar, although the premise is very different.

They are doing a prequel to the movie the Conjuring coming out late this year/early next year. It focuses on the doll Annabelle. Looks REALLY good.
And if anyone has been thinking about seeing As Above So Below, save your money. It is super slow in the beginning and the camera shake made me sick to my stomach. The last 1/3 of it is pretty good/scary but not worth the money.
I can see that. But I'm not sure anything else would have been better. Without posting spoilers, I think the fact that the ending was upsetting is kind of a testament to how good it was.
Okay, so came back to say I just watched this. It's excellently done. I loved the overlapping stories, and it wasn't confusing, which is a tricky problem to overcome. And I loved the ending. I actually prefer movies that don't have a happy ending. I'm a huge horror buff and this has definitely earned a spot on my top 10. Thanks for recommending, CheshireGrin!
