No Stella & Dot mentions? I'm still being stalked by a friend of a friend to give a party. Will. Not. Happen.
Never heard of Jamberry until right now. I'm ok with that.
The jewelry people come and go on mine. The Stella and Dot ones havent been as bad, but I unfriended someone over her constant FB messages and event invites for Lia Sophia stuff. Origami Owl was hot for a while, now there's a new one (KEEP?) that I just got a party invite for. No thank you.
I still say Arbonne sales people are the worst. Followed closely by scentsy
You must not know any Younique people. The before and afters are just horriffic!
A friend is constantly posting about Younique on Instagram. She claims that she needs more consultants because she can't keep up with the number of orders she must fill each week. Yeah, sure. That mascara is hideous. A few years ago, she was into Stella and Dot. She even went to conferences and then suddenly stopped. It seems that once people get sucked into the MLM world, they just hop from product to product trying to get rich.

I bought Jamberry nails something like 4 months ago and they are still sitting in an envelope on my dresser. Obviously they are too much work for me.
I ignore most MLM, however, I do like Tastefully Simple and R&F. TS beer bread is THE BOMB. The R&F Reverse regimen has truly helped my skin in amazing ways. I adore it. (no, I would never sell either)
DoTerra is now on my shitlist. It's be coopted by the anti vax chiropractor crowd as a cure for everything from viruses (incl the new one that's making kids sick all over the country) to Lyme disease. I just want to start shanking people.
Yes, I have one of these on my FB. Someone else asked her about studies to back it up and everything she posted was from an incredibly biased site with "aromatics" in the name.
I'm just flabbergasted that people actually still do this MLM stuff. And not only do they do it the whole MLM scheme seems to be expanding to more and more stuff!!
Do people actually make money? And what is the per hour of work return? They must make good money otherwise how else does this sort of industry survive?! I don't get it! Every thing you read about this industry is negative. It seems like it should be a relic of the 90s at this point.
I think the industry survives because people realllllly want to believe that they can make a lot of money with very little effort, and it seems like people who do these keep signing up for new ones even though the past ones didn't work out. It's like they are unable or unwilling to think critically about MLM or admit they made a mistake.
I have a friend that has done seven of these schemes. She keeps doing them despite the fact that she has never made money and sometimes lost it. She lost thousands on one of them but won't admit it. She says she didn't lose the money as she has thousands of dollars in scrapbooking supplies (this company required its "consultants" to buy product to resell). I pointed out that she doesn't scrapbook. She responded that she might someday. She then went on to do other MLMs. It boggles the mind. It makes me think of people who want to keep taxes low for the very wealthy so someday when they are very wealthy, they won't have to pay a lot in taxes.
I did know one guy who was very successful with a MLM. He created a website to sell products. After the website was up and running, it was pretty passive for him. He would just ship orders as they came in. The company found out and made him shut down his site. They only wanted people ordering from the official site. He then quit selling.
Yes, I am not a jamberry fan. But I do have a little addiction to the paparazzi jewelry that one of my fb friends sells. I just hate that since she sells through public Facebook parties all my friends can see when I buy something. But the jewelry is $5 each and they have some cute stuff. They also have plenty of hideous things but different taste and all that.

right? I don't get it either. But I think some people do make money at first. They suck people in when they first start out and are all excited about the few hundred dollars they make. How many of them are still making money after a year of selling? My guess is very, very few. At least Jamberry stuff gets used up quickly, in theory. I don't need new candles, ever. Even makeup takes me months to get rid of. If I liked Jamberry, at least I would shop more than once or twice a year.
I see the appeal of these schemes because there are SO few part-time jobs a person can do at night from home, on a completely made up schedule. While the hourly rate is pitiful, it's likely either that or zero for many of these women. It's slim pickings for extremely flexible, SAHwork. I still think the data should dissuade everyone from doing it. I just see the appeal. I loathe selling and I'm not into 99% of these products at any price. But some people do actually like these parties and think it's NBD to sell to their friends.

The absolute worst FB offenders are those wrap people because they post pictures of flabby bellies in your feed.
HIDE HIDE HIDE.
Even though I know it's really no different, for some reason the one MLM company that doesn't drive me bonkers is Mary Kay (and yes, I know that MK has a lot of issues). Probably just because my mom has worn it for decades and when I wanted to wear makeup as a teen, my mom took me to a MK consultant for a makeover and bought me a the makeup.
Or it could be because MK is a company run by olds so nobody posts about it on Facebook!
Ah, but she did post in this thread and identified that she sold them. It's just a different tactic.
it's not the selling that bothers me, it's the agressiveness of it. every day that wrap-chick posts about something. it's really annoying. i don't want to block her on FB. well, i do, but i feel bad doing it because i friended her right before she started with all of this crap.

An old family friend of mine does the wraps and she was long ago hidden from my FB feed. But sometimes I have to look her up to hate read it.
OMG. Just insane.
She also posted at one point something about the company being Christ-centered. WTF? The whole concept of the wrap is about vanity, which strikes me as not a super duper Christian thing to promote. So weird.
I like the Jamberry wraps, but I HATED them the first time I used them. Once I watched the videos, I discovered that I could actually put them on and have them look decent.
So many of my friends are Pampered Chef consultants. I resent the fact that my only interactions with them these days are sales pitches.
I must have awesome friends. Not a single one sells anything mlm.
I did go to quite a few pampered chef parties in Japan, but it was always the same group of friends, and we looked at it as just a regular gathering that included a sales pitch from someone who never preassured us.
Or it could be because MK is a company run by olds so nobody posts about it on Facebook!
I thought this too, but I have two FB friends who sell this who are my age-ish.
Younique is the biggest offender on mine. Not only are a bunch of friends selling it, I have been invited to no less than 10 FB parties with names like "Erica's 3-D Fiber Mascara Online LASH BASH!!!!" and "Chelsea's Younique 3-D Mascara Lash Lovers Get Together".
Also, it is $29. And you have to use your own mascara first. And, my secretary fell for it, and bought it, and said it's one tube of gel and one tube of dusty lint, and you have to put the gel on first then the dusty lint. No thank you.

Saywhaaaaat? My DiorShow is $29. DIOR. Thank you, massive makeup posts. Also, that shit sounds like a recipe for a corneal abrasion or eye infection, stat.

One of my best friends is close with a couple of Arbonne bitches and I keep getting suckered into going to parties at her house for that shit because I'll do a lot of stupid shit for free drinks. One of them is super pushy and obnoxious but is about to get her Mercedes and the other wants to be like her and is even worse. She's constantly posting about Arbonne "cleanses" on Facebook and earlier this week was praising the greatness of their protein powder for being the perfect pregnancy treat without bloat.

I know someone who sells R...&....F and does very well, but she was one of the first. The products themselves are crap. They are the same as drug store brands. And their marketing techniques are obnoxious.
I think designs on nails are tacky 9 times out of 10. I'd consider doing plain stickers if it meant they wouldn't peel but I don't want to risk paying money just to have them look like crap (I'm not coordinated enough for application).

I don't mind the R&F. Proactiv really was the only stuff I used that helped clear my skin back when I had acne. It worked better than prescription stuff for me. I have no desire to join the scheme, but I have bought products from a friend who did join as a consultant. Same thing with jamberry. I was pretty satisfied with them. They did last a lot longer than nail polish ever has on me and I thought they were cute enough to use every once in awhile. I'm not high-maintenance enough to be doing my nails all the time, but I thought they were fun, and I did get a lot of comments and compliments on them.
I do kinda feel bad for the people who get sucked into it as a money making scheme. They fb posts certainly do get repetitive and annoying, and I see they stop posting after 4-5 months, I'm assuming because everyone who was willing to try it has, and then the income is gone and they give up. But the products themselves I've been happy with.

Huh, MK is the worst in my experience. I've had them be pretty deceptive to get people to meetings.
I had a friendly acquantance invite me to go get pedicures together. Turns out she was a MK consultant and that was code for giving myself a pedicure with MK samples while pushy consultants tried to sell me stuff.
I also had a friend who "won" free facials for her and four friends at a bridal show. She invited me to come and once again it was giving myself a facial while consultants tried the hard sell. My friend hadn't realized it was MK, and she was mortified when she found out what she had invited us to.
See I feel as if you are hustling.your MLM shit so well that you are getting a BMW out of it you probably would be successful at anything, perhaps by even opening your own business. But the vast majority just seem to twaddle along in some sort of slave wage territory. Those people aren't getting cars.
Why hasn't there been a federal investigation of the MLM scheme yet?
MLMs and for profit colleges belong in the same bizarre American cess pool. Why in the Information Age are people still doing either?!
