I was sick yesterday and couldn't watch. I just finished it and all in all I liked it. Not crazy about the Dougal scene but the rest worked. I thought the sex was pretty n line with the book. Can't wait to see where they end part 1 of the season next week. I am very curious how they are going to cover so much of the book in part 2 of the season.
I hate that they left out that it was the same church. I hate that they changed her ring! I hate the part with Dougal propositioning her. And I hate that they left out the part about respect having room for secrets but not lies.
I love Claire's dress. I think Jamie looked gorgeous as all hell, even if they didn't give him his red tartan. The sex FINALLY got good. And I liked the scene with Ned getting the dress.
This. You said everything I hated and loved about the episode.
I thought her ring in the book was more delicate with flowers or something?
I did enjoy all the smoldering looks Jamie did in this episode.

Ok I rewatched today. I think that Sam and Catroina were really really spot on with the acting. I know they deviated from the book in some places but it was a beatuiful episode.
I have a SERIOUS question though. The previews for the next episode made it seem like the show is about to take an extremely drastic turn away from the plot of the books. I've only read the first two so are they borrowing content from a later book or is this Ron Moore's creation?

We're thinking that there's sooooo much material left to cover, that it's going to be hugely edited down.
I have watched last night's episode three more times, and the sex gets better on repeated viewings. A lot.

This is totally new, though there's a small reference to Frank's search for Claire in a later book.
DG has said repeatedly that the vision of Jamie that Frank saw at the beginning of Outlander will be important (and explained) at the end of the series. I have to wonder how much she told Ron Moore about her idea for how it's going to fit in later, and whether he's doing some foreshadowing and foundation-laying for it in the series. That is the only way I can justify them spending more than 5 minutes with Frank in the next episode.

Ok I've been thinking about this-- opening it back up to Frank makes sense bc the show isn't strictly Claire's perspective like the books are. And you don't want casual viewers to forget about Frank, especially if he comes in later. I guess? I'm only beginning dragonfly right now, what do I know
I like that they're bringing Frank into it. I think it's an interesting angle, and I think it'll be a nice juxtaposition between Frank's frantic searching and Black Jack's depravities.
I thought it was a little weird how infatuated Clair was in the books and kind of was all, "husband? What other husband?" Once she got the D
