As a follow-up to the other thread and a conversation with a friend. If you make less than $10,000/year, go vote in the other poll (http://pandce.proboards.com/thread/371164/poll-sahms-re-income).
If you work (and make more than $10,000 per year), how much do YOU individually make per year?
It does not make financial sense for me to SAH, nor do I want to. DH makes enough now that we could do it on his income alone, so I am not forced into working. He is the breadwinner, making 25% more than me in base salary, and he's gotten pretty big performance bonuses each year on top of that.
It's not really about the money for me. DH makes substantially more than I do (more than double). I work because I just prefer to work. And because you never know what could happen in the future.
I actually took a pay cut for more flexibility but I still have my foot in the door at least.
My income is really variable since I am a contractor and what I make is based on my collections (which are based on how much I work, obviously, but also on whether my clients pay up, whether my fees get discounted, etc.). If I bill an average of 20 hours a week over the course of the year, I generally make more than my H does at his full-time job, though I have no benefits and have to deal with self-employment taxes.
I'm just squeaking into the $75-$99k range and I can't figure out the salary chart but I think I'll make $80ish next year. When I went back to work I was only making $50k but I got a new job with a big salary bump four days after I went back. I would have still worked at my old salary because SAH isn't for me. I am thinking of going PT when he's in school so I can be around for his activities more.
Base is 95. Bonus is discretionary but I would be pretty psyched if it kicked me up and over 100k. (I've only been at my job for 2 months so I have no idea, lol.)
H makes about 2/3 my salary. It was never really a question that I would SAH.
Your are in the exact same situation as me essentially. There is a reason I am back at work already.

I barely make it over $50,000/year. I'm a RN, working in hospice. I work for a non-profit, so I have no hopes of ever making much more than this if I stay here.
I am in the $75-$100K range. If I am promoted next year as my boss hinted, I may squeak into the next range. My field is not well paying, so I will take a big pay cut if I ever leave. I got very lucky to find this place!

We saved up so that I could take 11 months (we wanted H to take a month) but we ended up making it work without dipping into savings too much. Of course, I basically didn't save for retirement for a year. Whatever, we're catching up now.
We could have done that too. Now we haven't dipped into savings but instead will use all of it so that DH can not go back to work in April…worth it though.
This is depressing! I make $30K working 30 hours a week, but I'll just make myself feel better by saying I'm one of the youngest people on this board
Lol, I agree that this is depressing! I work 40/week and make just under 30 myself. No kid yet but I plan to go back full time after ML. When you consider H makes less than me, you can see why I don't have much of a choice :?. Seriously though, I've only been at my job 2 1/2 years, I'm 27, and this is a fairly LCOL area so... it's not that bad. Right? Ugh.
ETA: I work in operations at a bank. I have gotten raises and promotions so it's only up from here! Haha.
ETA #2: I have a bachelor's degree that isn't required for the position.

Just over 90k without calc'ng in my insane benefits. I am hoping for a promotion and raise (as promised) within the next 6 months. I actually took a pay cut 2.5 years ago when I went back to the non-profit sector (but the time off and benefits made up for it). I worked my ass off to be where I am (MBA/CPA) I would not give that up to stay home. I have very flexible hours though, so I think that helps.

That's what I'm telling myself! It's hard not to compare, especially when I see people in my general field making so much (@vicmo!!) but it's apples to oranges.

Hang in there:). My salary went up lots through my mid and late 20s:)

@bunnybean We're in Texas. I'm at a small private school, so no shock that I don't make much. H is a PE teacher at a public intermediate school; no masters.
