It is really hard at times having such a huge income disparity, though, especially because we have equal education. I pretty much never get raises or bonuses whereas he gets both yearly. I have applied for promotions and been denied. It's kind of demoralizing seeing him do so well financially and I'm basically the same.
But you sort of do different things with your degrees right? I mean, do you want his job and the hours that go with it? Or do you want to be married to the person who makes the bank and not have to work the long hours.
I am lazy so it's clear where I stand on this issue

We are incredibly lucky that even though we live in a HCOL, have a mortgage payment, car payment, etc, I am able to stay home with DD. But we did work towards that and live accordingly, so I guess it's not all luck.
ETA- Not sad like poor and broke, but that I am lower class here and upper in the real world haha. I just think the difference between GBCN and the real world is shocking. This is not a mini picture of the US as a whole in the slightest.
Dude, this is a really skewed version of real life. 90 K is more than the majority of people in this country. You all are doing just fine.
I agree. It doesn't surprise me about @starry observation from her BMB. This board is an off shoot of some thing called "money matters". I think the demographics may be a little skewed.
@rex @arya you are right and I know that, I just think the difference between GBCN and the real world is shocking. This is not a mini picture of the US as a whole in the slightest.

Exactly. As long as people here understand we're pretty privileged folk compared to the real world for a variety of reasons (yes, even the "poor" folk making 90k lol), no one should feel bad.
It's the things like, "I live in Manhattan and I'm a lawyer and many of my neighbors are richer than me and I don't live in the projects so I'm middle class" that get people raked over the coals, and rightfully so.
We just made it into the 100-150 K catagory this year. I actually feel pretty good about it, although I am not sure how we would survive if we had to pay for daycare.
I'm at home and with a good year, our HHI will approach the $150 category. In a LCOL city, I'm SAH till the kids are in school, it makes everything flow easier right now and I like it.
DH doesn't travel as much as he did before moving into management but it's REALLY sporadic. Like, I could get a call and he could be on a plane an hour later. My old career path required travel too so something had to give if we were going to have all these kids close together. I'm hoping to finagle something part time in a few years.
DH jumped from 95k last year to 160k this year. It may wind up being closer to $175k depending on his OT which also increases his bonus. He could make 90k next year but we won't know that until then. This feels like gambling because I can't plan anything or buy a bigger house than the 900sq ft we have until I have 30-40% DP because I don't know if he will make 2-3k/mo less.
Can we make MMM poor a thing? Cause that's what we are. According to the CNN calculator posted on MM a few weeks ago, we are above middle class for our area. This is definitely a skewed population group on MMM.

Some day someone is going to take these threads to their logical conclusion and devise a formula for weighing by COL, homeownership, student loans, and # of kids in daycare so we can all slap on our MMM quotient number and feel worse or better about ourselves

And after reading the results I feel poor. Although IRL I feel like we have more than we can ever need. We are at 100-150k but on the lower end. We have h's income and 4 rental properties but h has student loans and we have a car payment and a mortgage. Hopefully we make some money when we sell our current home in a few years.
