Oh, man, hopefully it won't be more than a year or two. Will you be living on base? I've found DOD schools to be a little better than school districts in crap towns.
Feel even more sorry for me. Apparently we are going to be in Lawton
Ok, so Lawton isn't the best. If it's any consolation, that's where we would go to get away from Altus when we didn't want to make the 2.5 hour drive to OKC. It improved quite a bit while we were there. There's now a Target! (this was very exciting for me, lol). And the drive to OKC won't be too bad from Lawton. Definitely get a Pikepass ASAP for the turnpike.

When I told my friends that I was moving the first thing they said was do they even have a Target over there. Lol, so it looks like it won't be too bad
Girl, that's what this life is like. You know that! You guys will be just fine. DH was sort of lucky and was stationed at one place for the last 13 years. We got flagged and kicked out unexpectedly, pretty much. Within a few months, we did our first PCS to the middle of Alaska. There's no Target here either and they sent H away the second we got here. I'm a Los Angeles native and I've never even seen snow. Now I'm left to navigate the extremes of AK weather on my own. I've got this and you do too! Good luck.
Aww, I'm sorry. I remember all the "surprise, we're moving!" talks while growing up since my dad was in the navy my whole life, but as a kid I always just rolled with the punches. So hopefully your kids adjust quickly. I hope that it's a smooth transition for you.
I loved all but the last one to Arizona. And that's where they ended up staying lol.

Lawton is about an hour south of Norman, I think. Norman has a lot you can do, being a college town and all. If you love fried food and barbeque, you will love eating here.
I have been in Oklahoma for 14 years now, moved from Austin, Texas suburbs. It was quite the culture shock, but there are good people here. Moving sucks, and it takes a while to acclimate, but I think you will be fine. PM me if you ever want to talk Oklahoma. I don't know much about Lawton, but I spent 8 years at OU (undergrad and law school) and know Norman pretty well.
Weather-well, winters aren't terrible. We usually get some snow/ice, but normally they are pretty mild. Two years ago we went swimming outside on Thanksgiving. Summer is hot and humid.
