AmyRI DS also loves orange. Target has a ton of cute orange stuff right now. I just got this orange waffle-knit shirt and striped orange/gray t-shirt.
Out Target is so weird. There is like one measly rack for boy toddler clothes and there is barely anything on it. Then there is 2 racks of baby stuff then 800 racks of girls clothes. It annoys me so much.
Do you have any other Targets in your area? Different stores have different selections.

Yeah, I have checked out three different ones. Not much better.
I've been looking everywhere for a cute pair of yellow rain boots with handles that isn't too expensive. DS has several hand me down pairs of various colors but he needs an in-between sizes that will probably only fit him for a couple of months. I've looked online and at a bunch of kids stores. The clerk at J&J said it's too early in the season and they may have them in a couple of weeks, but it's been raining a ton where we live.
H&M online has a variety kids' rain gear. Think I saw yellow boots, though not with handles.
I was loving the nautical theme but now that's it's fall it's hard to come by. Anchors for all seasons!
I like the nautical theme in theory but I feel dumb buying it because we live in a land-locked state, LOL.
Same objection for surf/shark related clothing. WE DON'T HAVE THOSE HERE.
We live by the beach. I tried to indoctrinate him early so he loved the beach with a whale themed nursery and clothing. When summer came he loved the beach and was the only baby who enjoyed water play at day care. Lol
more maternity-like wasted pants for those of us with chubby/fat waisted boys.
wish jeggings were ok for boys.
For reals! Pull-on pants are the ONLY thing my 2 year old (in 3T *-)) can wear, comfortably, that aren't freaking 'sweat pants'.
The poor guy has a BIG belly and will say "too tight!" if his pants/shorts remotely push on his tummy.
He also needs shoes in fat-foot sizes. He can't wear slip-ons because they're too narrow.
Um, I vote we make more forgiving/adjustable waists and shoes for everybody, kids and adults alike! Stop making comfort the sole purview of slouchy clothing. My waist size changes hourly And so many shoes slip off my narrow heels.
I don't mind graphic tees. AJ is developing quite the assortment of character Ts. Which reminds me, I need to figure out where his TMNT and Transformers t shirts have disappeared to. We need more raglan/baseball shirts. I'm not a fan of the mommy's/daddy's stuff but that's the stuff my parents and sisters buy for him so I just roll with it.
I sent DS to daycare in nice clothes up until this summer. He started demanding to pick his own clothing, which is a mix of graphic tees and mesh shorts. Boo. Nice clothes are now collecting dust in the closet since he refuses to wear them unless I bribe him for a special occasion or something.
This is why we own no graphic tees or mesh shorts Well, that is not true. We do have mesh shorts, but DS knows they are for soccer only lol.
This is where the older brother thing causes problems for me. DS1 (7 yo) only wants to wear mesh shorts or track pants and Under Armour/Nike/professional sports team t-shirts because that is what his friends wear and therefore what is cool. As a result, my 4 yo, who would otherwise probably be happy to wear the cute chinos, striped tees, and polo shirts I buy him, wants to wear sporty looking clothes all the time because he idolizes DS1. I am bracing myself for DS3 to start insisting on this look by about 2.5. I guess the good news is that DS1's graphic tees just have a swoosh on them or whatever--it is not like they say "tough like daddy" or "here comes trouble."

Clearly this means that if we have another kid/boy that I will have to make sure their friends dress fashionably
Another silly question for y'all. When do you put your kids in these cute clothes if not for daycare? Weekends only?
He goes to daycare in cute clothes. A lot of people comment about how dressed up he is all the time, so I'm guessing they're judging me, but IDGAF, he looks adorable I've gotten most stains out, and my favorite shirts (plaid button downs) hide stains better than graphic tees do. Also, daycare warns us when they have very messy activities planned and we'll send him in not nice clothes for the day.

Good luck with that . I think the whole problem is that head to toe Under Armour IS fashionable in the elementary and middle school boy world. DS1 has some darling friends with super cute, fashionable moms, and yet that is how they all dress. Some of his friends have older brothers who are 10-12, so those kids decide what's cool (tall dark socks and soccer sandals, anyone?) and then it all trickles down. But then I think about how I dressed during my elementary school days in the 80s, and I figure far be it from me to cramp his style.
Enjoy the cute clothes why you can, y'all. It's fleeting!
h, I am hoping DS1's friends start wearing better clothing b/c I am tired of the graphic tees and mesh shorts already. lol. I hope DS2 will not care about clothing for a long, long time so that I can dress him up in all of the preppy clothes I bought DS1. Heh.
Oh, don't worry, they will totally start wearing better clothing!
When they are like 32 and their significant others make them .

See I see some pretty fashionable kids in my area. Skinny pants abound! ha ha Now I am going to sit outside when the bus drops off kids and check them out
ETA: Which I realize sounds creepy ha ha. The bus lets off in front of my house!

It is cracking me up that your 3 yo is so particular about his clothing!
My DS starting getting picky about his clothes at 2.5. Comfy stuff only too. Have to bribe him to wear nice clothes for pictures and holidays. Now at 3.5 he's a bit easier to bribe, but still have too.

My DS, 7, also refuses to wear anything but athletic shorts and pants. He hasn't worn jeans since he was a toddler. In some ways it's nice because I spend almost no money on clothes for him.

Are the kids you see still really young? My SIL is a nanny for 6, 8, and 10 yo boys in NOVA, and she says it's all athletic wear all the time for them and their friends, too. They had the cutest, most ridiculously expensive preppy clothes as babies and toddlers, but now they apparently change into mesh shorts as soon as they get home from school and strip off their uniforms.

Ha, yeah, I guess I see little kids and then high schoolers. BOO. Hopefully another few years and this trend will be over!

See I find the athletic clothes to be so much more expensive! I used to be able to get cute things 40% off at Gap and Old Navy, but now he really wants specific, pricey brands (Jordan, Under Armour, North Face, etc.). And those stupid Nike Elite socks that are like $20 a pair!

It may be better where you are. I suspect you live around hipper kids. Her kids live in McLean where there seems to be a dearth of hipsters.

Oh, DS has no clue about brands. He's still sporting $5 shorts and pants from Carter's.

DS1 is sporting that stuff, too, because he doesn't have a choice , and he doesn't seem to care as much on pants and shorts. But he definitely knows a few brands (I blame his friends' older brothers) and asks for t-shirts with their logos. He usually gets them for b-day or holiday gifts. And he wears the same 2-3 shirts that he thinks are cool day after day.

I have found shopping for DS has become more and more difficult as he's gotten older. I loved all the sweet baby clothes with graphics like teddy bears and jungle animals, but I can't stand the skulls/skateboards/sports graphics in boy clothes. His fall wardrobe is pretty much all stripes and plaid.
My biggest problem is I still prefer elastic waist pants for him, but now that he's outgrown 5T, I'm not really finding elastic waists anymore. He just doesn't look comfortable. Granted, I may be projecting because I refused to wear non elastic pants until 7th grade.
I've been wanting to order from Next Direct, too. I think it's British? I've gotten a few things on consignment and the quality is good, and it's a little bit different and not too expensive.

My 8 and 11 year old nephews in NOVA wear all athletic wear all the time. Mesh shorts, sweatpants, under armour, all of it. I hate it.
My 6.5 year old still wears whatever I want, including skinny pants, but I buy most of his clothes from UK stores and their clothes are less athletic and definitely more hipster.

THIS IS GREAT STUFF. Thank you Brie! I am totes buying this sweater and these slippers. Car slippers Ashley&Scott!
Almost all of my kids clothes come from Next Direct. It is awesome. We lived in London when my son was born so we have always bought their clothes there.
