I was going to watch this tonight so I am sure that I will have something to share tomorrow given that I want Strax to throw another newspaper at Clara's face.
I like 12 and don't mind his slightly more mean/gruff/rude ways (once in a while I'm annoyed though as I feel it goes a little too far) but I just have NOT been really liking several of these new episodes!! Doctor Who frequently has some plot or logic holes, but they're so much more obvious when most of the charm is missing from the episode.

I like Peter Capaldi a lot, but he doesn't seem gruff to me right now; he seems weak and bumbling. The writing absolutely sucks. I guess it's nice that they're trying to make Clara into a stronger character, but they can't do it at the expense of the Doctor. HE is what it's all about.
I didn't get that vibe. I felt more like he was trying to show her how in the dark she was and she showed him she wasn't having any of it. She's making him treat her like an equal. That's one of the reasons I actually like Clara--she never had the starstruck awe of the Doctor. Kind of like Donna, she's not intimidated by him.

I actually like Clara with Twelve more than I ever did with Eleven. They bicker, but it's in a funny way rather than a flirty one. I did roll my eyes at the Doctor thinking she was dating the bow-tie teacher and not Danny. Was that just a joke about Clara and Eleven's "flirting?" It made him seem clueless, annoyingly so.

That didn't bother me so much, it seemed to highlight his self-centeredness to me. Because of Eleven and Clara's mixed signals relationship, it made sense the Doctor would think she'd find a boyfriend that reminded her of Eleven. And Twelve is showing a much stronger bigotry toward soldiers, not even accepting of them as worthy people or possible of redemption (odd to me, but whatevs, that's 12 apparently) so would just outright dismiss Danny.
I'm finding these kind of boring and him kind of hard to understand at times.
Also, I'm ready to get rid of Clara and have the boyfriend FINALLY get into the Tardis.
When I can understand him, I find him somewhat interesting. We can't get the closed captioning to work on our TV, so quite a bit of the "funny" lines are lost, due to his delivery. I think he's trying too hard to be gruff and is instead coming off as unintelligible.
I feel like the general tone is similar to the first few episodes of Eccleston and Rose. The focus was mostly on the stories, with a little character development tossed in here and there, whereas, by the time they got to Matt Smith, there was a ton of character development that happened alongside the stories.

That is interesting to read. Maybe it's because I've always felt like there was so much more to Clara's character that it didn't seem like they were tapping, although I do agree that they are starting to tap it now, but it's going back to a kind of "Amy's Choice" thing--does she want the Doctor or the regular guy more?
I think a lot of her other character development so far has been, not as a character on her own, but as a foil to the Doctor--she's reacting to him.
