What a disaster. Do you have a local jeweler that does custom work - not a chain or national company? It is so much easier to deal with someone you can talk with in person and see the wax up etc .
God, I'm so sorry this happened! And on top of everything else you're dealing with. I would likely refuse the ring at this point too.
If you do end up starting the process over, I can make an amazing recommendation for you in my town. They did my engagement ring (custom) and have the best customer service of any store I've ever shopped at.

Thank you for the suggestion, I just might need it. We visited a couple of private jewelers here in SA, read many reviews and just never found a place that had anything close to what I wanted and never saw the good reviews that would have encouraged us go to an independent for a custom ring.
Our jewelers that we've used in the past for expensive pieces like Mr. Pom's Breitling watch, are not local...the closest is more like 7 hours away.
I have a call in to one of the jewelers we have used in the past to talk about ordering it from them and having it shipped here. If that's not an option, I will call you. We can more easily do it with your store.

Well I hope it gets worked out with relatively little frustration for you and Mr. Pom! Just let me know if you end up needing my store's info.

I would get my money back. If they do manage to finally get everything right with this ring you are still going to have all the negative feelings from the hassle.
When did you place the order? Just wondering how much time they had to work with.

It's now been 10 weeks.
So you placed the order approximately 6 weeks before you wanted it? I would think that would be enough time but I'm sure it varies a little for each company. I would definitely go with a small, local retailer not a national chain.
What a cluster; sorry Pom. I wouldn't trust them to size it properly, and I wouldn't want to always associate this mess with my ring. I would cancel the order and go with a local jeweler. I think you'll have a much better experience.

Sorry, Pom. This sounds so frustrating. At this point, I would move on. Like others have said, I'd be worried about the quality when thinning out the gold to make it 2.5 sizes bigger. And if something else happened in the future, it doesn't sound like they would do much to work with you.
Have you considered trying to find an independent jeweler and not go big box? My H did this for my engagement ring and it was a truly wonderful experience. It has been 7 years since we got engaged and my H randomly saw the jeweler on the train the other day. They started talking and he remembered my ring and all the different intricacies of it. He told my H to bring it in to his shop so he could inspect it and make sure the prongs were still tight and he can clean it. It just feels like a smaller jeweler cares more, so maybe it's worth it to look into something like this?

Small jewelers definitely care more! We ran into our jeweler at the pumpkin patch last year. He remembered us, even though it had been 7 years since we purchased our rings.
I lover our jeweler & always refer friends to them. Pom if you were in my state I would send you to them too
At this point the joy of the ring is ruined, even if it was fixed it has the bad memory. It would have to be the most amazing ring ever to deal with a company who told me my fingers looked puffy.
You've already missed your dates, I'd go somewhere with better CS.
Plus, a ring sized 2.5 sizes is going to be thin and might not sit right. What if you do need to size up in the future? Can it handle going up 3.5 sizes?
The whole experience would just leave a bad taste in my mouth, not something I'd want for a special piece of jewelry.
I am pretty much here. But Mr. Pom wants me to have it.
I am concerned with re-sizing the metal with regards to the issues both you and tripleshot have mentioned.
So do a little research today, can you find a private jeweler?

I have the rendering of our order and called the jeweler (in our last town) who I know personally. They are 7 hours away, but said they would be happy to work with us.

I doubt he would want you to have a ring with a bad association, or one that might not be constructed properly. Have you told him that's why you want to use another jeweler?

Oh he knows and agrees. We just don't really want to spend more time on this. But we agree, we will. It's too bad they just couldn't have done it properly to start with.
While having to wait for another jeweler to redo the design properly is a huge bummer, it's not likely to be something you'll focus on in the years to come. The negative experience you've had at the big box place, however, will probably be more difficult to forget. I'd go ahead and go to a local jeweler - you'll have something pretty for the holiday season and the New Year.
Pom DH wants to know if this is Jared? He worked there once upon a time and says this sounds like them. He says Jareds problem is that they have so many customers that they don't care about individuals and don't have to worry about repeat customers.
Well they certainly won't have to worry about us being repeat customers We should have known better. Thanks to Mr. Lobster for the info.
I used to live where you do and can recommend a very low-key, but excellent independent jeweler in the area. My H grew up there and they were his family jeweler.
We have since moved, but they still did a custom anniversary band and a diamond solitaire for me.
