Holy shit. I hope the teacher reported this and for some reason the girls didn't know, but that wouldnt explain why the boys haven't been disciplined. Fucking hell.
Aren't you concerned that you haven't reported it to the authorities yet? Do you have a school policy on reporting threats on students by other students - and assault? A timeline?
There seems to be a lack of urgency in the system.

As the mother of a 6th grade girl, I just need to say thank you for doing the right thing and reporting this behavior. I cannot imagine my DD going through something like this at all, never mind getting up the courage to approach a teacher for help and being told that the solution is simply to "avoid the boys". I'd be standing outside the door waiting when the principal showed up at school the next morning.

That is completely disgusting. I'm glad you reported it and wish I could say I was surprised at the teachers behavior.
However:
N's bus driver quit last year because apparently the middle school kids on his route played the "rape game," wherein someone would yell RAPE, and everyone would laugh. Every time it happened, he had to stop the bus, investigate, file paperwork, report it, etc. And you know what happened? Those kids were dragged into the office w/ their parents, and the principal, and the BUS DRIVER was warned/reprimanded for reporting this. Because Preshus and Special Snowflake and Junior would NEVER play at such a thing.
So he quit, because that's some insane liability and risk to carry. He can't not report it, and when he does, he's yelled at, and nothing happens. If that's the bullshit that happens on the middle school bus, I'll be driving N to school.
as a mandatory reporter, don't you have to report to CPS?
We were told in training to work up the chain. But I am making a report to the archdiocese as well ( catholic school). I'm trying to, anyway... Holding...

Holy fucking shit. On several levels. Please be sure to praise those girls for continuing to tell adults until they found one who listened and took the situation seriously.

Was your training given by an administrator or someone with CPS? Not to be alarmist, but here that is against the law. I have to report myself within 12 hours. I worked for an organization that had a policy such as the one you are describing, but it wasn't legal and I would have still been liable.

I am also wondering about this. You may want to check your state's legal guidelines.

as a mandated reporter - dont you need to call CPS ? And yes to the above - some organizations may have their own "guidelines" or chain of command, but it may not be legal.

It was an outside company hired by the archdiocese.
Good for you: 1. For being the kind of instructor that the girls felt they could trust to confide in; and 2. For actually doing something about it. That is disgusting.
... UPDATE: the principal got back to me, and said that the situation was handled in school. I will talk to my girls at the next practice to see what that really means.
I don't like the sound of this. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm thinking the "handling" was the whole telling the girls to stay away from them. Gross. Would there be a next step to escalate, @professorartnerd? I also get a "back off" vibe from a statement that it was "handled in school." I hope I'm wrong.

Agree. I'm going to talk to the girls who confided in me when I get lucy from school. Sigh
