The smallest city I've ever lived in was 15,000 and that was too small for me. I moved into an apartment there and when I was picking up some things at WalMart, two different people in the check-out line told me they saw me moving in, how was I liking the apartment, etc. It weirded me out and I hate having people know my business.
I prefer the anonymity of a bigger city. I also think part of this is that I'm a teacher, and I would hate to see my students everywhere when I'm out on the weekends running errands. That happened in the smaller city I lived in. Go to McDonald's for something? A kid's working the drive-thru. Pick up things at the grocery store, including tampons? Of course, all the cashiers are students. Sick, looking like crap, and running to the pharmacy for meds? Yep, a student and his whole family is there and stops you.

This reminds me of life in the town I grew up in. I was visiting my mom and was pg. I had horrible all day sickness. I could not get home. H came to get me. On the way home I started vomiting again and had a seizure. H rushed me to the local hospital. My mom knew before H could get me checked in. She showed up while he was calling her. An old neighbor called and said they saw me come in. H hates small towns
Sometimes I miss it and then I remember getting in trouble before I even got home from school. "Teacher so and so told me you were holding hands with a new boy. Who is he? Are you together? what happened with that nice kid?" WTF ma!
Yes! You get away with nothing.
Yep. My town was small, everyone knew everyone. You hate it growing up, but hot damn do I want that for my kids!
