I would accept a chandelier as a gift (hmm...Christmas ideas). Installation is not a gift. My views are colored by the fact that I love updating our house- and installation still doesn't count.
We talked and made up! I said I was sorry I reacted so dismissively and that I did understand, and appreciate, all he's done around here, but that I don't want household stuff to be gift stuff. Oh, and that I wouldn't drag my feet on getting the chandelier hung I have been pretty stressed about all the household stuff this year, so I think he thought he was helping me be less stressed out. LOL. In any case, we both agreed it was NBD and I don't think I'll be getting installation offers in the future, ha ha.
Then we watched Planes, Trains and Automobiles. And now we're going to bed!
Last year, I was with my BFF when her DH fell in love with a wall hanging grandfather clock at the tune if $300+. He HAD to have it for his birthday in 2 weeks(which was crazy expensive for their typical gift-giving) and while she could take-or-leave-it, she enjoyed his enthusiasm, and said yes.
So, they purchased it and as they were walking out, he said, "maybe instead of my birthday, this will be our 20th wedding anniversary gift which is coming up in 6 months..."
