I don't. I am allergic to eggs, so I can't. (And yes, there is a shot without a live strain of eggs, however, it is not widely available here, and it has gotten mixed up at some of the pharmacies. Since anaphylaxis is the outcome, I am not willing to chance it.) That being said, last year both my H and I got the flu, and was a miserable week for both of us, so that also sucks.

Does the mist have eggs in it? I cannot remember.
It's recommended not to get if you have an allergy to eggs. I don't know if it actually has the protein in it, but if you are allergic to them, you shouldn't get it.
I get the shot every year at work, basically because it's free.
However, last year in August I gave birth to a preemie and was told to get the flu shot and DTAP booster shot. Because she came home from the NICU Sept 15th, I got the shot extra earlier than usual. Both DH and I actually caught the flu that year. The Dr. told us that the people coming in his office with the flu got the puking strain if they didn't get the shot and the other strain if they did get the shot. I can't remember which is strain A or B.
In the end, my daughter never caught anything which was an answer to prayer. I'll still get the shot.
Oh and if you're allergic to penicillin don't get the mist. My niece got the mist at school THEN the nurse was like "you're not allergic to penicillin are you?" Well she was and caught both A & B.
Each year the experts try to figure out what flu is going to be the one to cover in the shot. I don't think they always get it right.

Okay, I was right. Puking/diarrhea is *not* the flu. It's a stomach bug or gastroenteritis. Influenza (for which we are vaccinated) is a respiratory virus without GI symptoms.
You do realize that getting the flu shot will not make you get the flu, right?
Quite aware. I still don't want it in my system.
Why? Your argument that introducing the antibodies from the vaccine into your system as a reason not to get the flu shot is not rational or based in scientific fact. Why do you think that introducing the flu shot vaccine into your system and "OMG THE ANTIBODIES" will somehow put you at risk, and what exactly what do you think you be at risk for?

I never actually said it was putting me at risk. Just that I didn't want them in my system. Maybe it is because I have never had the flu/seen anyone with the flu, but for now, I am refraining from getting one.

So, in short, the "OMG Antibodies" have nothing to do with your system, you just don't feel like it because *shrug*

Dude. It's her body. She doesn't have to justify to you or anyone her decision to not get a damn shot.

Thanks sapphire bou I just choose not to engage when I am not in the mood to get into a discussion over why I do/do not do things because, *shrug.* And because this is the interwebs, she can call out her opinion all she wants and I'm really not affected by it. Now, if she was enlightening me to info that I was unaware of, then I'd be grateful for the knowledge. Like OPS getting bronchitis info.

I generally don't engage at all, but I guess today I'm just in the mood.
Plus, I'm waiting on my database to pull some information.
My doctor asked me if I wanted to get a flu shot, and I said I wasn't planning on it because I'd never gotten one before and seem to have a pretty strong immune system.
She said that as an otherwise healthy woman in her mid-30's I am not part of the population at risk for complications and it is fine for me not to get it. She did give me the standard "it is recommended for everyone", but she didn't push it.
Since this board mostly in that demographic, with no kids, not working in health care, not acting as a caretaker to an elderly or immunocompromised person, etc - it shouldn't be that surprising that the frequency here is less than on a board where most of the women have members of the high-risk population (those germy little bastards! lol) in their homes.
This is one of those "don't fix what's not broken" things for me at this point.
