I've only been to Disney once when I was a kid, but my sister and her now-husband went last year (no kids) and had a blast. I think they drank their way around Epcot.
I don't know, I've been on lots of trips where there were plenty of kids, I just ignore them. I can't think of a time, Disney or otherwise that kids ruined my trip. And just like I do different things in Europe when traveling with kids, I did different things in Disney without kids.
I just can't tune out kids. Strollers, crowds, $12 beer Nope not for me and DH. With the kids? Of course. But then I well aware that my idea of a nice vacation is by some considered boring. To each their own
Exactly, everyone does like something different. I just think those that like Disney as adults get annoyed when people act like it would be awful. Different strokes. I have little interest in a cruise & hate typical all inclusive resorts. Others love them.
Food and wine...the spas?! The ferries, shopping late at night at downtown Disney...there's camping, golfing, sailing and parasailing, fishing, plus the fun of the parks.
Of course I can understand people NOT wanting to go, but I can certainly see lots of reasons TO GO.
I would love for us all to go to Europe, but DH and I have never been and I have no idea how to plan it "safely" you know?
When the time comes, I may need lots of help, lala and others!!

The bolded - but you can do that stuff just about anywhere.
I'd rather not spend thousands of dollars to do those things in Disney that I can do for half the price with 25% of the people in a place like Yellowstone or Vermont or Canada.
You know, we loved our trip to yosemite this year - but it was more similar to a trip to disney than you'd think - high crowds, lines, busses, expensive food & lodging, etc. And the food was actually worse at our resort. Don't get me wrong, it was still amazing and I can't wait to go back - but there is a reason it's called the Disney World of National Parks.
ETA: The more I think about it the crowd & expense issues apply to lots of popular tourist destinations & particular attractions. There's a reason they're popular, you know?
wait...I'm confused. people go to "Disney" to camp, golf and go to a spa? I thought Disney was like, going to Disneyland. Who goes to "Disney" to get a massage and camp?
I would not go to Disneyland without my children. That sounds like the most unfun vacation ever. Why would I choose to be around other people's brats while trying to vacation without mine? In fact I remember you VERY WOMEN giving me a hard time because I said I didn't understand why someone would take an infant to Disneyland. Not like, as a family vaca that included the babies, but just parents and an infant.

Y'all are really making me rethink my Disney plans. Is the only reason to go bc of the kids? Me or DH have never been and I've been pushing for us to go in Jan 2016.
The kids will be 6.5 and almost 3. I thought we would want to go again? But if its miserable maybe we should wait to go until they are older so we only have to go once??

No way -- those kids need to go when they are believers.
I fucking cried watching my three year old watch the Electrical Parade. Cried!
I think lots if people do disney "wrong" and that makes it a miserable experience. Time of year, where you stay, how you structure the day -- all important.

I wouldn't want to go without my kids, but we had a blast when we took DD. it really is magical. We're going back next fall.

I haven't ever been but I feel like my kids make plenty of awful things fun. Like I wouldn't go to the zoo if it weren't for the kids but watching Dd freak out watching the leopard pace back and forth makes it worth it. I didn't have a burning desire to see Sesame Street love but watching DD freak out when she saw Elmo made it worth it. I'm guessing Disney will fall into the category for me.
I must be doing it all wrong, because I swear my kids make plenty of fun things awful.

That's a perfect time to go, pretty much the ages of mine when we just went. Just because some people don't enjoy it, doesn't mean everyone won't it that you'll have an awful time. I'm betting you'll have a great time - seeing it through their eyes is awesome!

Nope I just got back yesterday. It was amazing. Dreams come true amazing. My kids were in awe and DS go to fight darth Vader. I would go back tomorrow if I could. I adore disney with kids. It is wonderful.

Disney with kids is amazing. There is a reason we go so much with kids.
Thanks everyone!!! Like I said, I have never ever been so I have no idea what to expect. I am a huge researcher so I've already been researching a ton. I am sure as it gets close I will be asking y'all for some advice!
I went to Disney in middle school with my parents & in high school with the marching. Loved both times! I cannot wait until Z is older to take her & enjoy. I couldn't imagine taking her now. She'd be all over the fucking place. Wanting to touch this or afraid of that. We can't wait to go but I want her to be a little older. Plus DH has never been.
I worked with a woman who was a Disney a holic. She got married there. She had her honeymoon there & she just has a baby & they had newborn pictures there.
If we ever go to Disney the kids will be way older than they are now. Like elementary school aged. I hate going on vacations as it is right now, let alone to an amusement park.
I actually never went to Disney before I had my 18th birthday. We lived in north GA so there was no excuse, we just never did. I loved it when I went there, but I'm more of a Universal or West Point kind of girl. I love roller coasters and the ones at Disney are usually geared more towards kids with a few exception. I would still like to bring DD to Disney, but I probably won't go back without my kids.
