Yes. And dealerships have the big bows and they will rent them out for a small deposit. DH's dealership rents them out for $50. Lots of people buy cars as Christmas gifts.
I've never been surprised on Christmas morning. But DH has surprised me 3 separate times with new cars that he's bought for me. He's in the car business though, so he gets employee pricing and he already knows what kinds of cars I like. Once he surprised me at work, once on NYE at a friends house, and most recently, we were leaving for a long beach trip and I walked outside to put the suitcases in my car and there was the SUV I've been lusting after, sitting in my driveway. I think it's fun and I love surprises

I am all for surprises but he surprised you ae your friends NYE party?
I had a customer come get a cashiers check this week so he could put the down payment on a new car for his wife's Christmas present. Pretty sure it was a Ford though.
My parents once surprised me on my birthday morning with a new car in the driveway. And another time, my dad picked me up at my high school in a new car as a surprise. Not a Lexus and no bow in either case, though.

Lol
Lol, it's kind of a long story... He was supposed to get off work at 6 and come home to pick me up. He was stuck working late (always, ugh!) and I was kind of pissy with him and told him I'd just go without him. He didn't end up getting off work until around 10pm. So he's texting me for their address and he wanted to know what exact city they lived in, and I knew he knew where they lived so I didn't understand why he was asking. So he showed up around 10:30, we had a nice time, and when we were leaving around 1am, I didn't see his car parked outside. He was like "happy new year, I love you" and handed me these strange keys. He wasn't sure if I'd want the black or the dark grey, so he'd brought a black one home for me to drive home. I ended up wanting the dark grey, which was on back order for several weeks.
*and he needed to put the city into the new GPS because he was totally lost coming from the opposite direction. His car's GPS just needed the street address, but the new car required you to put the city in first.
I got a car for Christmas the year of my 16th birthday. The car didnt have a bow because there was a torrential downpour but the box had a total gaudy bow on it.
It was a bad Christmas, my parents were splitting up and my dads gf at the time wrapped it and made the ugly bow. I was a total brat and sobbed about that, i never want a car for Christmas again haha.
Sidenote: The car i got for graduation from . college was much more appreciated and my parents were back together.

Wait, does anyone NOT have this happen??!
But seriously, you would think for how much you spend on a car they would just give you the f'ing bow.

My husband tried to pass off the car that I absolutely needed as my grad school graduation present. Um, no, bitch, my car was dead in front of the house for a week, nearly 20 years old. Buy me a real present, ass!
I would be sad if I wasn't involved in the car buying process. No surprise car for me.
DH isn't a fan of car shopping, and is kind of bad at it. Plus, being short I need to sit in the car and make sure I can still see and reach the pedals. I tend to handle all the car transactions.
If anything, I would be the one surprising him with a new car.

The bows are really nice quality (they are huge and would probably cost a few hundred dollars at least). So each dealership buys a few and then rents them out. It's not like you'd want to reuse a giant bow for anything...ever again, lol...they charge the small deposit because people used to say "oh sure I'll bring it back" and then wouldn't.
I should clarify, DH knows exactly what I want and don't want in a car. It's not like he's showing up with a random sedan like "surprise!" I wouldn't like that at all.

But then you miss out on the thrill of the car negotiation, that is my most favorite part!

Haha, DH is the GM of a dealership, there isn't any negotiation, he gets an employee price and then decides how much to put down and how to finance. All I do is pick the color and what options I want.
DH and I got ourselves a Jeep Cherokee years ago. When it was delivered they had the big bow on it and they insisted on taking out picture with it. A few weeks later we got a calendar with some other family posing with their new Jeep.

I used to have X-plan through work, which meant the only negotiation was the trade-in value. It was all sorts of sad. DH hates the negotiation portion and is terrible at it, I think it is thrilling.
