I encourage the cons and mods to post more. I'm sure the liberal slant to the board is part of why certain people find it "groupthinky." That's not the issue at all. She wanders in and posts shit that isn't even in line with conservative leanings. It's just crazy. It's like when a batshit relative says something foolish and you're all "can you elaborate?" And your relative is all "I just know!"
I think ladydisdain's point is that the tolerance of her random interjections is less, because it's the only game in town, but I could be wrong. It's more noticeable, since no one else is posting a dissenting opinion and people do come here for debate, in theory.
But see, that makes it sound like we are all bobbing our heads and agreeing with each other and she's the only one interjecting so it feels stark. But that's not the case. We argue over everything; her interjections add nothing and are often unrelated to the topic. That would feel jarring regardless of the number of dissenting opinions.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."
I thought the point was that it was over and over, the same thing. Like spam, which does get people banned here.
If I kept quoting the same person about some previous flameworthy personal thing they did in a thread, I would consider that spamming and banworthy. Or even just repeatedly posting the same thing without quoting. That seems like trolling/targeting a specific poster, too.
I haven't seen any evidence of the mention of coke dick bringing down the ban hammer warning.
Well fuck, do I need to go back and count how many Solyndra and Benghazi posts lys has dropped off topic into threads? You just proved my point.
Was it the same thread?! That's my point. There is a difference between commenting with the same gist in different threads that are somewhat relevant vs. spamming a particular thread with the same thing over and over again. Or just constantly reposting a thread of your own with the same thing - coke dick?
Look I don't like lys. Her presence on this board adds nothing for me. In fact, I would say I find her usefulness and her contribution in the negative category, because it's that pointless. But, we have never ever been a board that bans people with any type of regularity outside of spamming. I don't see y4m's comment to bliss as inconsistent with that because it was one instance, in one thread of repeatedly posting the same thing.
If we want to have a conversation about more reasons to ban, let's do that. But acting like lys's posts are banworthy with the current set of rules and the common practice on this board is disingenuous, at best, as is using a comment from y4m to Bliss as evidence to the contrary, not only because it was different (one thread), but also because it was not followed through on. And I also disagree that y4m intended to bring the ban hammer down on bliss, but I'm not y4m so I can't say that for sure.

Perhaps... it just seems that she's always been one to interject and leave, and that her opinions have always been at odds with what most think on this board. It seems like she was ignored for a long time, or that people were more tolerant of this. I remember the 3.14/pi stuff but that was still after quite a few years of the same behavior. Then it seemed to die down again, and now it's back up again. IDK, maybe I'm just noticing people being bothered by it more.

But it's not that lys posts opposing views, it's that she posts insane ones.
To clarify, here are some examples.
Opposing Views - Here is an article about why the ACA is not working. Let's discuss. - Hey, if you raise minimum wage, companies might instead rely more heavily on technology, and that's a consequence that should factor into the decision to raise it.
Insane Views - Black people don't vote. Now I am going to disappear and never return to the thread. - The Black Panthers are going to blow up the St. Louis arches (written in response to a thread about a flawed grand jury proceeding)
FWIW, I really don't care. I don't really think she's violating the terms of service, but that Black Panthers thing was so nucking futs that I can't be bothered to argue for her salvation here.

My understanding was that she posted it because it was repeatedly being deleted, not because she was intending to spam the boards. And ALL of the boards bring up old personal things people have posted over the years. Specific posters are targeted on the boards every day. We've all had our turn in the flamefests.
Okay, thank you for the clarification. That makes more sense in the context of pixy's argument, but I also don't know enough about MM board dynamics. If that's considered personal info that someone has requested be deleted, constantly reposting it is also more spam-y for me. Idk, I find coke dick amusing, but if it was someone from this board and they requested it be deleted on their own board as personal info, I think I'd be sympathetic to that and would expect our mod to handle it, especially if it was continually reposted.

Oh I know her views are insane. They're like a joke. I just meant that if there were actual opposing views and others debating in a post (bringing a valid opposing viewpoint), she'd be less noticeable and easier to ignore. But a lot of times, she's the only one interjecting, and even though her views are insane, it gives people something to comment on.
I guess I see it this way..
OP: Debate topic Poster 1: general agreement Poster 2: general agreement. Lys: Insanity
But if it was like this, it would be less noticeable/annoying because you could still debate a topic with opposing viewpoint.
OP: Debate topic. Poster 1: valid opposing viewpoint Poster 2: general agreement Poster 3: other valid opposing viewpoint Poster 4: general agreement Lys: Insanity
Like if you're already having a conversation with give and take and opposing viewpoints, it's easier to roll your eyes and move on. But if no one with a valid opposing viewpoint is engaging, then it's like, the conversation either ends, or you can engage lys who doesn't engage back, talks in talking points and is generally frustrating.
I am not for banning anyone usually, because I am fine with friction - keeps us sharp. But Lys is the equivalent of a fart in an elevator. Its not really a big deal, and you can just ignore it, but I think everyone would be happier without the fart. And this is one long, soggy, stinky fart with lumps in it, and its been hanging about the place for years.
Oh for fuck's sake. Lys doesn't need to be banned. Block her ass and keep it moving. Maybe, maaaaaaaaaaaaybe if she could only be blocked from CEP and keep on keeping on elsewhere, I might, miiiiiiiiiiiiight go for a ban.
But probably not. She's obnoxious. That is all. That's not banworthy.
/sits here
As annoying and horrible as her posts can be here on CEP, people do seem to like her on MM and lys/sisugal has been a reg there forever. If she bothers you block her, but I don't think a global ban is appropriate when she can so easily be ignored.
Right. Because blocking on a message board solves problems.
When the thread derails because she dropped her bomb again, and then the people who did block her ask what happened, and then it gets into a larger mess because it has to be rehashed again... exactly how does blocking help solve the problem exactly?
Blocking is not the answer here.
ETA: I say this with love - I KNOW you people! Blocking will not work.
She is infuriating to me, but I'm now seeing her as our very own spr.ings1. Every time ranch dressing and tipping liberal policies and Obama are brought up she jumps in with a bomb just to watch the flames as she walks away. She is the very definition of a troll. An offensive, maniacal troll.

The Obama and liberal bullshit doesn't bother me (or anyone else that much presumably) - it's the racist stuff that is intolerable.

unless we're willing to ban AW then i can't get behind banning lys.
That doesn't make sense. AW has engaged in many conversations detailing why she believes what he does and having back and forth about some of her opinions. It is dissenting, but productive dialogue.
If the cons/mods try to post/engage more, would that make her seem less, I don't know, like a big annoying firehose of radically conservative tripe? Serious question.
No, it wouldn't IMO. Because all she does is post Fox News talking points with no discussion about why she agrees with them. Even the post yesterday read exactly like a list, not coherent thought.
