I can go to her store and listen for yelling that would make a great Saturday morning? Also, the first time I went to CB I ordered chicken fried steak and was shocked at what came out.
I'm curious as to what you thought the chicken fried steak would be.
I was much yournger and from the Southwest so I thought it would be steak. I had never had Southern food before that visit to CB.

Technically it is steak (cubed round steak) but I understand. I know people who thought it would be like fried chicken. My MIL makes city chicken. I don't know anyone else who makes that.
What is city chicken? I had eaten cubed steak before but never fried and that was not in the description. If I see steak I except sirloin or new york strip, not cubed. Lesson learned and now when in doubt of a food item, I ask for clarification.

OMG city chicken! My mom makes that. I have no idea who taught her or where she got it but it is amazing. You can never go wrong with fried pork on a stick.

You mean beyond the word fried being in the name?
I was young and seriously didn't know. I just saw the word steak and was amazed my parents were allowing me to order a steak. I now know why but at the time it seemed to good to be true, it was Christmas come early. I still laugh at the memory when I enter CB. I will also add we rarely ate out and if we did it was either at Bill Johnson Bill Apple (think ribs) or local Mexican restaurants.
I just took DD to CB yesterday for lunch and got the new salad. Wow, that was a good salad. The one with chicken and sweet potato straws. If I worked at CB I would weigh 800 pounds.
The pecan praline one? It's looks so pretty and I've not had a single person not rave about that thing.
I try not to eat there often, only if I've been working a middle shift and haven't eaten all day. I always eat on Sundays though. Because I live 30 minutes away from work and church so on Sundays, I have to take the kids to church, then take them back home and turn around and be at the Barrel by 2. I'm usually staaaaaaaaaaarving. I get either the kids shrimp or the fried catfish country dinner plate.
If I'm just hungry but don't want to eat a full meal, I get biscuits and gravy. We get 50% off a meal just before, during, or just after a shift. It's soooooo tempting.

Yes! I got it without the beets because ew, but the rest of it was soooooo good. I ate every bite!
We eat breakfast at the Barrel every week before church. DS could not love that place more. He charms the servers for extra biscuits and I can blissfully drown myself in syrup and bacon while he plays the maze games on the table. Love.
