Omg. I ordered a gift for my dad and H from Canvas On Demand.
the package has been en route for a few days now. It's coming FedEx via the USPS. It's going to arrive tomorrow, Saturday, when H and my dad are both here. SERIOUSLY!?!? How effing annoying.
I haaaaaaaaaate Fed Ex post. Hate with a fire of a thousand suns.
We voted to keep lys on the island because apparently banning is worthless. And apparently this upheaval caused a rip in the fabric of space/time and now we have Zoe back like she hasn't been gone at all.
And then everyone drank from their respective lady glasses of win.

I have purchased a lot of makeup over the last two weeks in attempt to make myself look more put together, but I've only succeeded in 1) making myself look weird (clown-like or like I was in a fight) and 2) wasting money. How do you guys do it?

H just accepted an offer for a new job. I hope this will relieve some stress on him and he'll start sleeping better. Nonny, you're not the only one jumping ship!

Good for him! I'm hoping I find a great new job in the new year once I start actively looking again. In the mean time, I'm having a hard time actually heading in now that I've sent out my goodbye mail.
Oh, and I have to have a gum graft, but the only time I can get it in is the week of Christmas. It's only one tooth, but I'm nervous that I won't be as OK after as the periodontist claims I'll be.

go to the MUT young padawah. The force is strong in you.
MH is swinging by a wholesale meat place to buy approx. $300 worth of meat as I type. THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS WORTH OF MEAT.
that's not even everything we're getting. There will probably another hundred or so from Costco/regular grocery store.
So many amazing things are going to come out of my kitchen in the next 2.5 weeks.
Let the great Christmas gift food making begin!
What are you making?
4 kinds of sausage (~25 lbs total. 4 flavors. One of which is Duck and Bacon), 5 lbs of tasso, 10 lbs of bacon and an as yet undetermined number of hot smoked cured duck breasts.
It ended up being not $300 because the duck breasts (which are only sold by the 10lb case at this place) were sad and skimpy. So we skipped those for now and are probably going to scale back on number of breasts and do the expensive big fat ones at the fancy store.
And then just to use up the assorted leftover bits from making all of that - duck liver pate, a bunch of confit'd duck legs, a jar or three of duck fat, duck stock (good for a surprising number of things) lamb stew (not for gifting. just for eating), and probably some random pork stir fry (also just for eating). Oh and some ribs apparently? we bought a full belly.
Oh, and depending on which cut of veal we end up with for the brats, maybe some veal stock for the freezer. That stuff is amazing.

I have to go order the casings and breasts now.
Where do you live again?
Maryland. Want some duck fat? I ended up with so much last year that I actually didn't use it all before it went funky, which was fucking tragic.

I started that thread and it's the reason I bought all this stuff in the first place. Then I got overwhelmed with reading it. Maybe tomorrow when DH is away I will peruse it.

i want to be you.
this is the first time we've tried to do this post-kid. We gave people actual storebought gifts last year. It was bizarre and we didn't like it. So we're somehow going to breakdown multiple animal carcass bits, make all this stuff and run the smoker for two days straight - while also not smearing raw pig juice all over my child or letting her leap headfirst off the sofa. Again. Wish me much much luck. Sausage day is the 20th. My kitchen will get cleaned to within an inch of it's life in prep and then it'll look like a bomb went off when we're done.

Um yes. That's like asking me if I want some fried chicken. The answer is always yes!
are you actually nearby? I had a vague impression of you being in DC, but I wasn't sure if that was accurate. Because I really will probably have like 5 pint jars full of fat by xmas.
Also - I'm full of randoms today - I had a super weird run the other day - first this jackass screamed WHORE at me as he drove by for absolutely no reason. (seriously, what is WITH people??) and then after I shook that off another person decided to pace me for like 3 blocks - I think he was actually just walking to a neighbor's house, but he was doing this slow trot/jog thing and then he'd speed up and catch up a bit, and then fall back - I was just about to go into a full on sprint to get away when he turned up a driveway, and THEN....I saw a giant glowing fireball shoot across the sky.
Apparently aliens landed in buffalo (or a meteor, whatever you believe) and it was visible all the way down to MD.
wawa I will gladly take some duck fat off your hands
We were in our old building last night and got to see the renovation work they did to our apartment. It looks like a completely different place. The new tenant put several thousand dollars of his own money into it. I think he's insane.
This afternoon is dragging. I wanna go home. I wanna be able to focus on my accounting homework/prep for final (that is in two weeks because I am woefully unfuckingprepared, which I know is a huge shock to all of you)....because I'll work on it when I get home, right?
I want to get my nails done this weekend and I NEED to get my eyebrows waxed. And my house cleaned.

I'm required to do a practicum for my program. I met with the director yesterday and it was fucking awesome. She's a JD too who entered the field later in life and we saw eye to eye on soooooo much stuff. Also, because I'm older and already a lawyer, I get to do stuff that others wouldn't get to do.
Not cool, though? Seven of the ethics conferences I have to attend begin before 7:30 am. Do these people not have children? How do they get them to school?
Don't know if you already discussed it, but how did your last class with the sexist prof go? You know, the one we all wanted to attend with you?
