I lurk here because I like the discussion, but I don't usually participate because you ladies are much more well-informed, well-versed and well-spoken than I am on these things. Usually one of you beats me to what I'd want to say anyway. I appreciate the perspective that I've gained from lurking, though, because it's made me consider things on a deeper level than I sometimes would.
FWIW i was like this when i first started on the E08 boards. (confession: origami intimidated the shit out of me. in a good way)
post. you learn more by posting than by reading, i promise.
I never think "oh someone else has already said what I would say so I shouldn't post." Maybe I SHOULD but whatever, I feel like there is value in my comment and I wish more people would too and just post and not assume that we don't want to hear what they have to say on a topic because it's been said already or better or whatever.
No, you're right. That's one of the reasons I do lurk here: people jumping in with their opinions regardless of whether it's been covered. Everyone has a different perspective, even if they ultimately agree on something, and it's great to get those nuances. I have a pretty narrow world around me - it's very limited racially, economically, and politically. I'm trying to find ways to expand on this IRL, but also nice that I can get a really diverse set of opinions and experiences here.
Ya'll please. If your post count isn't < 100 YOU'RE NOT A LURKER. Exceptions made for people here less than 6 months.
Editing because I can't say this the way I want. Just, if you have 2000 posts gtfo with this "I'm a lurker" business.
I think a lot of people consider themselves a lurker on this board but maybe not on others. Most of my post count is from MM or MMM. I never post on ML but I still read threads I am directed to, lol.
Yeah but people know who you are. All boards are the nest and all that.
1) As of January I will be joining the nights and weekends crowd.
2a) I don't want to see anyone say they don't post because they aren't political-minded. Last time I checked this place was called CEP, so you can be all about the CE and not so much about the P.
2b) The CE stuff is the shit that gets brought up on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and you can sound really smart in front of your spouse when listening to the broadcast because you TOTALLY heard about that thing those people over there did that one time.

But... that is divided up between H&G and some Got Pregnant & MoM, and a previous stint in H&F. I am sure those who claim lurkdom with higher post counts mean they lurk at CE&P. Except for me because I guess I am less sneaky than I thought I was. Lurker Fail.

Yes. Most of my time is spent on April '12 and H&F.
I don't always feel the most informed or intelligent about the conversations you guys have so I don't feel like I contribute much to threads. Therefore, I don't usually post.
CEP bushes are a good place to hide. You might find beer there.
Plus they're easy to hide in because we never prune them. Apparently.
So a police officer and his family move in up the street this summer. One day the father of the officer was hanging in the front yard and sees a car full of high school kids (the high school is at the top of our street) screech to a dead stop at a house across the street and one of the kids stick something in the bushes and they drive away. He goes over and finds a case of beer, chuckles and brings it in the house for drinking purposes presumably. The next day our neighbor/good friend (and owner of the bushes house) is in the yard and a kid comes up and says- "hey man, um you have something of mine- can I have it back" - he, of course has no clue what the kid is talking about and says so. So the kid sulks off. Then he goes over to meet the new neighbor (police officer) who tells him the beer story and they all had a good larf.
I love reading the news links posted here and the comments but don't feel I have time to keep up and post and get to know people. I mainly post on April 2012.

Proboards logged me out and for a second I thought I got banned because I was getting combative over the definiton of a lurker.
We're not good at defining our internet terms around here. I stand by my standards. You're a lurker if you never post not if you just like to go spy on other boards' insanity (like DWP. For real.)
It's so funny how many people think they are lurkers when I'm like, wait, we've known you for years! Like kittycatbio something something said yesterday she's just a lurker. What? You've been here forever! Makes me wonder if I'm actually a lurker too?
Now I'm just embarrassed and feel special all at the same time.
I am a teacher and can't generally post during the day most days. So I read when I can, but by the time I get to a place at home where I can post, it's night time, and I don't like to bump old threads and there aren't a lot of people around. I'll try harder
This is me, to "T." I also don't have anything original to add, since others have spoken my thoughts more eloquently than I could express.
I think i'm a lurker, I'd say i was a regular on S&B and post there more frequently. I guess i dont post much even thouhg i lurk here because i feel like i'm not as informed as most of you ladies.

But I got your name wrong! Sorry! I don't think of you as a lurker at all!

I know you're right. I'll try to get over it and post more.

I live in Japan, so the majority of the time I'm just reading things in the middle of the night for you guys in the U.S. By then, the conversations have generally wrapped up or I feel like it's too late to jump in. On that note... it's 1:11 AM and I need to get to bed!
I feel like a lurker. I don't have a home board, so I just click around and comment on whatever. I feel like a weirdo that walks up to a group of friends butt into their convo, while they side eye me and keep talking to each other.
I will say that a lot of the comments that lys makes are the same as the Fox news loving family and coworkers I'm surrounded with. Sometimes I wish you all would do a calm, concise rebuttal of her points rather than just getting angry. Not for her sake, but for mine! lol.
Also, I really like to play devil's advocate - it's part of my process for working out how I feel about something. I'm not sure I have a thick enough skin to do that here.
I don't post much mainly because...well, I just don't. No reason really, I just don't lol.
I interject my opinions when a crazy Alabama story shows up. I love being able to explain where the crazy originated. Alabama has plenty of crazy to go around!
My viewpoint is quite different to that of this board, and I usually don't have time to get into a lengthy debate, so I don't post. I don't want to be accused of posting and running or trolling.
I like to read the debates, though, as occasionally there is a viewpoint expressed I haven't considered yet and I learn from that.

NOT A LURKER! You're an elder, for the love of mike!
partyinmytummy--now there's a lurker. Six posts--that's lurking! Get out of here with your 10,000+post-elder-status shit!
