labbie - that hot chocolate with whipped cream vodka sounds yummy.
Right before thanksgiving someone here mentioned a caramel apple sangria. I made it for thanksgiving and it was a hit, though it might not be great if you don't like sweet cocktails.
:::sips vodka and Nuun::: You know what I'm going to say. Pick up a flavored vodka, mix with whatever you've got.
But because I know you like beer, I know you know where the best beers in the world are. Yep. Colorado. If you'd just get out here, I'd take you to all the best breweries. Just sayin'.

My favorite beer lately is Dry Dock Apricot blonde. That's pixy0stix's fault. My favorite wine, far and away, is Barefoot Riesling. My favorite seasonal thing is the Cinnful Apple Angry Orchard.
Wine - I am not a wino...I buy Bota Box whites. I bring a few random reds for xmas like Cupcake brand. Nothing fancy.
Beer - Now, I can write a few pages about beer. I am an IPA lover. Some of my favorites are MN beers, so that probably won't help. If you have Summit, their Saga IPA is decent. Surly Furious (IPA) is one of the best MN beers in my opinion. I am not sure they distribute outside the Midwest. Sierra Nevada Celebration is a great pick. SN's Torpedo is another great IPA. Bell's has some great beers. Two Hearted is their IPA, but it's really easy drinking for a 7.0% beer.
More seasonal, look for Left Hand's Milk Stout, Deschutes Jubelale or Deschutes Black Butte Porter. Bell's has some good stouts, too.
I think you're right, Surly probably is the best. You are way more knowledgable than me on this beer stuff, so thanks for the suggestions!

Also Vermont. Most breweries per capita in the US! We have some good beers--turned me into a beer snob.
On top of that, my favorite reasonably priced red wine is the Layer Cake Syrah.
Fun winter cocktails: hot cocoa with baileys and vanilla vodka, pudding shots and pomegranate margaritas. I make a mean spiked cider--heat cider, add a bottle of spiced rum, gold schlager, cinnamon sticks, cloves and other dried mulling spices. YUM.
But those are all for special occasions. I am just like Tara and mix vodka with whatever sparks my fancy. Or whiskey with ginger.

Another favorite is Steel Toe Size 7. They only have the 22oz bottles in stores. But on tap around here and we get growlers a lot.
Since we are talking about wine I've been working very hard to finish off all the open bottles of wine from our party last weekend. My husband told me I could just throw the open wine out, I told him he was crazy!

The appropriate response to that is:
Exactly, I also had to be strategic about it. I finished off the whites at the start of the week and am now working my way through the reds.
]Beers: Summit IPA -- Minnesota beer is awesome. We also like a lot of the Leinenkugel's seasonal stuff, and some of the coffee beers I have seen/tried are surprisingly good.
Happy shopping!
I just picked up some of the Lienenkugel cranberry ginger shandy. I'M SO EXCITED!!! I also got a 6 pack of Sierra Nevada Celebration based on the positive feedback here.
katyintx, I was thinking about picking up some rumchata for my coffee. LOL I have a 6 hr drive with DH & my MIL. I'm boozing up my morning coffee.
There is not enough alcohol in the world that would ever make this okay. I would need a sedative.
She can be lovely....or not. I never know for sure. It could be worse, but I have booze for my coffee & I just downloaded Unbroken to my Kindle. I'm going to tell her to sit upfront w/DH & I'm going to hunker down in the back with my drink & my book. Pretend I'm not here, people!

thom and breezy8407, we're huge IPA lovers as well. I have my go to CA beers (Stone, Lagunitas, etc) and then local/FL breweries that I always grab from. They're awesome beers, but I need to explore more, because the rest of the country has some amazing breweries as well! I love Bell's Two Hearted, but I'm not sure if we have Summit's IPA or the Surly Furious. I'll keep an eye out! I also forgot that I have to stock up on beer when I'm in Charlotte. NoDa Brewing's Hop, Drop n' Roll is amazing.
Y'all should just go to NoDa and do a brewery crawl. Heist, Birdsong Brewery & NoDa Brewing all right there together!

my husband just read that book on our vacation. I, on the other hand, read Gone Girl HA!
If you need an interception once you hit NC on 77, let me know.
I went up to see a friend in need of some love this weekend and brought plenty of booze but not enough mixers. We wound up going with nuun martinis and they were really good! Was it taratru who came up with those? Yum!

Hahaha, a Southern Baptist teetotaling coworker recently bought me a sign that says, "it's 5 o'clock somewhere" because she saw it at a craft show and thought of me. Nice.
