I think today is the last day he'll be here before Christmas. I was planning on giving him a tray of cookies, but I haven't baked 1 single cookie yet. Oops. I need to get on that. I have to run to Target so I figure I'll just buy him something but that's my problem. What should I get him?! TIA!
My dad's a FedEx driver. Much like teachers, he likes GCs. And food. Or coffee GCs. Because, dude it gets cold delivering those packages in Jan and Feb.
oh I'm not getting a gift for our FedEx or UPS guys, they're always different too. I used to leave a card and some cookies for our mailman because he was awesome, but he retired last year and our new girl sucks.

This. Our regular mail carrier is awful. And gone a lot. So, I never leave anything, because I don't have a relationship with any of her subs and the relationship I have with her is not a great one. And I'm not sure about the UPS guy. They always just knock and then leave, so I only see the back of his head...no idea if it's the same guy every time.
That being said, Starbucks GCs are always appreciated.
That being said, we only tip our garbage men, because, well, they have always taken large items for us without a problem. And they always put our garbage cans in the driveway, not street, so the mail lady can get to the mailbox.

This is completed ridiculous and out of control. I also don't buy a gift for our trash guy, recycling guy, paper guy, the lady who checks me out at the grocery store, ped, oBgyn, or anyone else seriously.
Of course I don't think it's necessary; I wouldn't even consider it except for when people routinely go above and beyond.
Like I mentioned, our old mailman was amazing. Our mailbox is like, 1/4 mile away down by the main road. When I was huge and pregnant, and then after I had DS, he was always bringing packages up to the house, would bring the rest of the mail with it, was so nice, etc. When DS was a newborn, he even brought it up a few times when there wasn't a package just because I think he was trying to help us out (maybe I just appeared THAT frazzled). This new girl, maaaan, she shoves things all sorts of ways they're not suppossed to go in our mailbox, and, on the rare occasion she does bring something up to the house, she won't leave the rest of the mail with it, which doesn't make any sense to me.
I feel like I'm the least charitable person. I'm not begging to spend extra money if I don't have to. I wish people stop setting the bar so high. Not everyone needs a gift, gift basket, trinket for every occasion. Please stop the madness.
My thing is that I like to show appreciation of people that are underpaid for their jobs. So my kids daycare workers and teachers, absolutely. Now, the UPS man I will tip simply because he goes above and beyond for us. UPS drivers make upwards of 60,000-100,000+ a year. Theoretically they don't need your money or gifts haha.

Where are on earth do you get those numbers? They definitely aren't making $75, 80K or above that a year, even with overtime.

We always have the same FedEx man. Since we have been remodeling this year, he has delivered a ton of heavy stuff for us. I just think it's a nice small gesture.
No one said you needed or should feel obligated to do so yourself.
I realize that. It's just nothing I've heard of before.
I remember being a little kid and my parents tipping our garbage men - if we had absofuckinglutely awesome garbage men that year (they changed yearly depending on what company had the contract). So, they didn't just do it to do it, but rather as a thank you to people they think were awesome at their job.
H and I have followed suit.
And my dad, who drives for FedEX, rarely gets gifts or anything from residential customers, but commercial customers often give cards or small gifts. We did the same for our deliverymen and service personnel at every job I've ever worked.

I am a credit analyst and see many tax returns. Plus, I know 3 personally. They are paid very well. Some over 100,000 a year.
