So for some reason H's latch on my left breast has always been less comfortable that the right, which is weird because my left produces much better than the right. Anyways it never really hurt but suddenly it is KILLING me. I feel like I am back to the first few days of nursing. Then my whole boob hurts for awhile after he is done. My first thought was thrush but his mouth looks clear and it only hurts on one side. I know I don't have a blocked duct because I have had one before and this does not feel like that at all.
I had thrush in my breast a couple of times. Blb and I kept passing it back and forth but sometimes I would have it even if she didn't. I kept trying natural remedies and then my local lactation consultant suggested I just get an oral yeast infection Rx and she also suggested a topical Rx called Universal Nipple Ointment out of Canada. My insurance didn't pay for it and I had to have it made at a special compound pharmacy but that stuff was amazing. It's an anti fungal and anti biotic. Do your nipples itch at all? I remember the pain I felt for a while after nursing. Like a deep throbbing deep in my breast. I let it go on way to long as as a result my meager supply all but dried up. I would suggest you see someone right away about it just in case it is yeast.
I also wonder about lazy latch, but would try to see someone soon if you at all suspect yeast. For lazy latch, if it's uncomfortable just unlatch him and make him try again. And again and again if necessary.
After this evening I'm thinking lazy latch or that he's biting me. Thank god he has no teeth. Every time he unlatched...delatched? Let go. Every time he let go he did so with a twist of his head rather than letting go and it worsened the feeling. And now that I think about it he has been really distracted and not letting go. Just bobbing his head about while I try to keep his head still. And if I try to get a finger in to pop him off he clamps down. What a jerk! Idk if that explains why my book aches so badly for awhile after...
Poor latch is my guess (from experience). Teething is always causes a poor latch here. You can take probiotics and use motherlove thrush cream if you want to stop a potential bout of thrush, too (also from experience).
