If you remember, shortly after my BFP a few weeks ago I had some heavy, period-like bleeding. I had betas done and they showed that I was still pregnant. I've had several more blood draws since then and they were great at first, but then they slowed down, although still increasing. Last Wed was 413, Friday was 593, then Monday was 982.
My doc stopped having me do the betas at that point and sent me for an ultrasound yesterday (my doctor doesn't do ultrasounds so she sends her patients to another location). I should've been 6w4d. All they saw on the ultrasound was an empty gestational sac. This is bad, right? The doctor that was there wouldn't really answer any questions. He said they can't know if it is still early and will still develop, or if it means the pregnancy is ending. He told me to talk to my doctor.
I'm losing this pregnancy, right? He talked like it could go either way, but I just don't understand how that's possible. It's not like I ovulated late and am not as far along as I thought I should be. It's driving me nuts though not to KNOW.
Would it be normal at this point to go in and have an appt with my doctor? Theoretically she should've gotten the ultrasound report by the end of the day yesterday. Will she want me to come in and talk to her? I feel like I need to talk to someone. I have so many questions. This is complicated by the fact that I'm leaving town on Monday and I'll be gone for the next two weeks. So if I was going to go in it would have to be today. I left a message on the nurse's line this morning. Should I call back and talk to the receptionist? She usually doesn't know anything. Tell me what to do.

I don't know what this would signify but because of what you mentioned about being gone for two weeks, if you don't get a call back soon I'd just call the receptionist. Two weeks is a long time to wait given what the u/s showed you. Good luck, I'll be thinking positive thoughts for you!

I'm sorry you're going through this. I do know that betas tend to slow down after a certain point, and I personally have had betas all over the place, but I don't know about your u/s. Did they schedule another one? Is it possible you're not as far along as they think? ::hugs::
I would call your doctor again and try to get an appointment. Id want answers too, and your doctor is the person to provide them. I could not leave for 2 weeks with so much uncertainty.
also, I'm really sorry you're in this position praying for a positive outcome.
Call back and get them to see you since you're leaving town. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.
With my miscarriage around 8 weeks, my HCG was really low and still went up, but did not double within 72 hours. They already knew it, and the ultrasound only confirmed that the heart had stopped beating.
I'm really sorry you're going through this. Unusual things do happen all the time in pregnancy, but yes, signs are pointing strongly to a miscarriage. If you are unsure of your dates, as the vast majority of women who become pregnant are, it is more likely to turn out okay. But it sounds like you're confident in your dates, and at 6w4d there should be a fetal pole. And your betas should have doubled faster. They do level off eventually and stop doubling, but at the levels you're mentioning they would usually still be doubling within 48-72 hours.
Absolutely call your doctor's office back again, especially considering that you're going to be gone for 2 weeks. The ultrasound did confirm that it's not ectopic, which is good, and there's not much else to do at this point, but you deserve to understand what's going on and to have a conversation with your doctor.
You want to talk to a doctor, so your doctor should be welcoming you. I'd call the receptionist and ask for an appointment today and explain the situation.
So I called and the receptionist said she had no openings today and she transferred me to the same damn medical assistant line that I had already left a message on. I called back and pressed the issue and the best she could do was offer to call me if someone cancelled. She said "someone" would call me "later" to talk about the ultrasound report.

I am sorry for the stress and uncertainty. I do not think there is much they can do at this point. I was in a similar situation and just had to wait and see if the baby developed. A second ultrasound is probably what you need to see what direction the pregnancy is taking.
I was using OPKs and temping so I'm pretty sure of my ovulation date. Even if I was wrong, I got my first positive blood test on Dec 30, which is over 2 weeks ago. Dec 30 beta was 29, then 3 days later on Jan 2 it was 73. Then I had the 3 I mentioned in my OP.
I'm sorry you're going through this. I would switch practices in the future if they cannot fit you in today. That's ridiculous.
I am doing a bitter ironic laugh at this. This OB is new to me because I was unhappy with my last one and switching to a new one for this pregnancy. I asked around for recs and she was highly recommended.

I'm sorry. I would ask for another ultrasound in a week and that should give you an answer either way. I also had a blighted ovum (empty sac) and I'm sorry but it does sound like that might be the case for you.
I know you got the run-around when you called but I would call back again and ask to be seen today. They have to have room in their schedules for emergencies and such. Talk to someone else, make a fuss - you deserve to be seen today esp since you're going oot for 2 weeks.
So the medical assistant did just call me back. I'm guessing the receptionist told her to give the crazy lady a call lol.
She says based on the data we have now, she's not willing to call it either way. So wait and see. Follow up ultrasound in 2 weeks. If I start bleeding like a period before then, give them a call and they will have me do another blood test. I talked to her about my ovulation date and asked if it was really possible that things could be developing this slowly. At that point she talked about how the embryo could have stopped developing. But you never know. Just wait and see. Wait and see.
I feel like praying for a heartbeat in 2 weeks would be an exercise in heartbreak. So I'm praying that my period starts quickly and I feel kinda wrong about that too.
I'm sorry you have to wait. I also think that doing yet another blood test this far into the pregnancy will not tell you what you need to know. If you do start bleeding again I would ask for an us right then. Another beta is pointless.
This same exact thing happened to me at 6 weeks. I had to wait 2 weeks and when I went back, there was a heart beat. It was the longest 2 weeks ever. Thinking good thoughts for you.
