On the flip side - anyone want to run Charleston next year?!!
I will say, besides this snafu (which is pretty huge) - this is an efficient race. Gear check, gear drop, post race festival was so much fun - mimosas, beer, shrimp & grits, velcro walls, massages, live music. I can guarantee this won't happen next year with the lead car!
The race had awesome volunteers. At the gear drop miles, 2,4, & 8, there were volunteers there waiting for the toss-off and would say, " Bib #218 - I've got it! Look for it at the finish" and then they would put it in grocery bags labeled. The race benefited the local arts program and so many little kids singing along on microphones. One little girl's rendition of R. Kelly's "I believe I can fly" was pretty awesome
In your case I'm very glad you were running without a specific time goal in mind! Hopefully at least this will alert them to work harder to fix things for the future?
Ladies - now you know if we do charleston there won't be a shuttle that takes us to the start line. No special catering like Kiawah
Yes, but food. So much good food!!
I KNOW! We did book a cheap hotel that was about a 1/2 mile to the start and they provided shuttles from the finish back to the start line. That part was easy. We also could walk to Hominy Grill for brunch the day after.....and ended up using Uber for the other dinners out.
So.....we could rent a whole floor of a hotel. That could work.

LOL! That would be fun.
January must still be a cheap time of year. DH and I are going in March and everything is SO expensive. The hotel the girls stayed at is $500+ a night. I winded up renting a super cute 1 bdrm for us for half that.

I could do without a velcro wall after running a marathon, but the rest of these this list pretty much includes all of my favorite things.

Ha! To be fair, it was mostly young kids on the velcro wall
clseale - we looked at other hotels, but they were $300-$500/night and it wasn't justifiable if we were getting in later Friday night, racing/post-race most of the day Saturday, and checking out Sunday AM. So, we booked the Comfort Inn a half mile from the start & a few blocks walk from great restaurants for $110/night. It ended up being perfect.
I am resurrecting this thread because we now have official race times. Our finish times are approximately 2 minutes faster
I saw on Runner's World where they were estimating that the extra mileage was around .2. That is around 1.5 min for people running at likely BQ paces. I'm sure a lot of people are much happier now.

Yeah, for our scenic tour of Charleston & all the railroad highways after you get out of downtown charleston , that was a 2 minute reduction for us. Leisurely strolling
