I wish! When I go to Italy, I want to go for at least 2-ish weeks. There is no way my mom would watch the boys for that long until they are a bit older.Â
How long do you have? I've taken week-long trips there before. It's the perfect amount of time to hit two cities.
If memory is serving me correctly, I believe it is between 6-8 hours. I flew back from Istanbul when I went to Everest.
What about Costa Rica? Or Sonoma?
We were just in Costa Rica in September and I love Sonoma, but it's out this time around. I'm being difficult, aren't I?
Has anyone been to Panama?
I have been to Panama! I had so much fun there. We were there a little over a week. We flew into Panama City. Stayed at the Gamboa Rainforest Hotel (It's on the the lake that feeds the canal). Explored Panama city for a bit. Then drove across the country to get up to the ferry to hang out in Bocas Del Toro for a few days. It was so beautiful. I am not really a beach person but this was one of my favorite trips I've taken lately. The country is beautiful, the food amazing, and the people friendly. It's also pretty affordable and they use the US dollar. Also if you are on the east coast there is no time change really. Depending on day light savings time, they don't use that.
If you wanted to go to bocas I'd recommend flying there on a small commuter from Panama City. It's faster.
I still dream of the sushi I ate there. It was so good.
My favorite area of CA is the big sur/hearst castle/paso robles wine country. You can have kickass seafood wherever you go, lots of great wineries, wonderful day trips, and the VIEWS holy christ.
I love Cambria, myself - the "downtown" area is a little touristy but it is absolutely gorgeous. They have an English teahouse, which is amazing. There's a sea lion area a few minutes drive from there which is also entertaining, and Hearst Castle is about 15-20 minutes.
Remember that I am not a sit on the beach kind of woman.
This surprises me.
I get antsy and my skin can't handle much sun. Add the sun issues to salt and sand and I am an itchy mess. I love looking at the beach, walking along the beach, diving, and more active beachy things, but I cannot sit and bake for days on end. 20 minutes is my upper limit.
doglove, Charleston has made the "Closer to Home" list.
gault, Italy is a family trip. My deceased grandmother is treating us.
captainmel, what's the temp like in Southern Utah in late Feb/early March?
It can vary depending on altitude/bad luck. They will get snow sometimes but I would be really surprised if they had some because I don't have any! My guess is mid 60's this year. Perfect for hiking and adventuring.
New Mexico is pretty awesome. I did a route 66 road trip this summer starting in Albuquerque. I twas so pretty. I wish I would have had spent more time there.

Muddled, I've been thinking more on this. You can fly into Vegas and spend a day or so there if you'd like and then drive and hour and a bit and be in the St George area of southern utah. St George is super close to Zion National Park.
You could also fly into SLC and do a day in Park City and then do a short 5-6 hour drive to any of the 5 national parks in Utah. Arches and Capitol Reef are gorgeous too. They're just on the other side of the state from Vegas/Zion.
captainmel, Arches is on my list, but I am more than a little worried about the temp. We may have to save that one for a summer trip. We went to Zion and Bryce two years ago and really loved both.

I wouldn't do arches in the summer because it will be 100+ most of the time. I would aim for mid spring or mid autumn. If you did early march I bet you'd enjoy Arches a lot. It is really pretty down there. My family did a spring break trip to a national park for several years and that was usually mid march early April and it was always lovely. Plus, you could meet River!

Come here! There's diving, hiking, beautiful parks and scenery, decent museums, some great restaurants, and even wine tasting within an hour and a half drive.
